Support 50+ Sanatanis Killed in West Bengal

Background

The participation of people in electing their representatives and using the power of the vote to reject them when they do not perform is the distinguishing feature of Democracy. However, often it is seen, that change is not without resistance from the representatives who have been rejected. In India, the state of West Bengal has always witnessed violent resistance whenever people sought to bring in change in the political leadership.

Changing Ideologies - Unending Violence

The change in ideologies of the governments ruling West Bengal in 1977 as well as in 2011 was always punctuated with violence but it did not bring change for the better to the lives of the people on the ground.
The past five years have seen an escalating vortex of violence that has spun out of control taking a bloody and uncontrollable course. What is more shameful is the silence of the national media with just token coverage given while non-serious issues continue to hog the headlines. This violence has been targeted at communities with a view to intimidate and prevent them from exercising their franchise.

Goal of this Campaign

We have sourced a list of 64 deceased victims of violence in West Bengal which has been compiled based on inputs received from organizations on the ground. The list is mostly comprised of people from the weakest sections of the society who are now threatened with arrests for merely chanting the name of God.
This campaign aims to provide Rs. 2 lakh per victim to the families as a token compensation.
Since the incidents recorded in the list go back to 2013-14, we are reaching out for help to organizations on the ground to verify details of the families. The information will be vetted with government ID’s and transfers will be made directly to the beneficiaries from the Milaap account.
We appeal to all those who stand with West Bengal to vote with their wallets and show their support by donating to this campaign and sharing it within their circle of influence.
