Successful fundraisers have 4 common traits
  1. A powerful story: People think in stories. Tell the who, what, and why. Who is the fundraiser for? What are / were they like? What happened? Where is the beneficiary located? How will the funds be used? What is your relation to the beneficiary? And so forth. Don't worry about the form and structure - just tell your story in natural manner. Break it up in multiple paragraphs, as it will be easier to read.
  1. Telling your story honestly: Answer basic questions any reader would have, such as who the fundraiser is for; what happened; where, when, and why it’s important to you; how you know the organizer or beneficiary; and how the funds will be used.
  1. Including a breakdown of the costs that comprise the goal. For example, “How the funds will be used: Rs 10,00,000 will be used for the medical treatment. The remaining funds will be used for day-to-day medical expenses such as medicines, scans and doctor consultation."
  1. Supporting documents: Adding videos, high quality images and supporting documents explaining the need.
We've seen that successful fundraisers employ the following 6 steps to get their initial momentum.
  1. Make the first contribution: Show that you're serious about the cause by making the first contribution to your fundraiser, however small it may be.

  2. Announce your fundraiser: Amplify your fundraiser by sharing your fundraiser page link on Facebook and Twitter. As more people share, more people visit your fundraiser page with an intent to contribute.
  1. Send your first email: Use our Email button to send emails to friends, colleagues, and family in a single click.
  1. Change your cover picture: Change your Facebook cover picture with a small caption and link to your fundraiser page to drive more eyeballs to your fundraiser. Please click on the link to see how to change your cover picture:  https://youtu.be/8S224Iz3-Js
  1. Thank your donors:  Send a thank you note or tag them in a Facebook post acknowledging their contribution. This encourages mutual friends to notice your fundraiser.
  1. Share updates: Send periodic updates to the donors using the Updates feature on the fundraiser page
Almost. We allow people to raise money for projects or life events that are meaningful. However, we don't allow projects for political parties or religious constructions in compliance with local laws and guidelines. When in doubt, browse our categories of thousands of successful fundraisers to see how others use Milaap. We do reserve the right to take down a fundraiser, should it misrepresent facts or show inappropriate content.
Your fundraiser will be supported by the people in your life. This includes friends, family members, loved ones, coworkers, classmates and teammates. Only after your campaign receives the support of the people you personally know, can it begin to attract the support of others.
No, there are no deadlines or time-limits. Your crowdfunding campaign will remain live until you choose to stop donations. Most users leave their crowdfunding campaigns live indefinitely as a lasting memory of all the wonderful comments and support they received. Please visit the link below to know how to increase the duration of the crowdfunding campaign: https://youtu.be/vRBM0LagJKA

Most fundraiser organizers want to raise funds within a particular time period. By showing the 'days to go' counter, donors understand the urgency of the requirement. You can always extend the fundraiser for as long as you want.
Note that your fundraiser can still accept donations even after campaign end date. Please visit the link below to see how to change the number of days to go: https://youtu.be/vRBM0LagJKA
You will receive an email notification each time a donation is made to your crowdfunding campaign. The email will have their name and email id. In case someone donates as anonymous, the email will not have their name or email id.
No problem. With Milaap, you keep each and every donation you receive. Reaching your goal is not required to withdraw the funds raised.
Absolutely. We take verification and authenticity of the fundraiser organizers very seriously. Milaap has the right to take down a fundraiser page should there be a misrepresentation of facts or identification details.
You can promote your crowdfunding campaign by reaching out to your friends and family on email and social media and asking them to contribute and share your crowdfunding campaign in their networks. Once you've raised your initial funds, reach out to local media or online news platform and seek their help in sharing your story. From time to time, Milaap also features inspiring, purposeful crowdfunding campaigns on our social media channels.
Please see the below-mentioned videos as it will give you a better idea on how to promote the crowdfunding campaign:
The homepage shows top 6 campaigns in terms of no. of donations received in the last 7 days. These 6 campaigns belong to 6 unique categories (top one from each).
Example, if your campaigns belongs to Animals and Pets as a category and has received the maximum number of donations in the last 7 days amongst all campaigns belonging to 'Animals and Pets', then it will show up.
Please note that this is system driven based on the above algorithm and there's no human intervention involved.
Promotion of campaigns are decided by a system generated algorithm, which does not allow any human intervention in order to maintain neutrality of Milaap as a platform. We shall definitely promote your campaign if the system shows your campaign. In order to have your campaign promoted, we strongly encourage you to get initial donations from your close network and also drive shares on social media. This is one of the important criteria for the system.

We've seen the best way to get your story reach a wider audience through media is when you pursue it yourself since passion and authenticity is so important to be communicated. Your campaign manager will certainly help you with tips and guidance to reach the right platforms to share your story. Once your fundraiser gets good momentum, our team may contact you to connect with our partners too. However, the discretion lies with our PR team as to which campaigns get media coverage.
Please check the option 'Keep my fundraiser private' at the time of submitting the fundraiser. This will ensure your fundraiser is hidden from appearing in Milaap's listing page or the search engine results (like Google, Bing etc). Please note that anyone who has your fundraiser link will be able to access it. To see how you could make your fundraiser private, click here.
Yes, please write into feedback@milaap.org for this and we will make the required changes.
You can go to your campaign dashboard and click on edit setting option, it redirects you to a page where you can see 'Stop Campaign' as an option.
Our Updates feature is a great way to communicate the progress of your crowdfunding campaign. You can add images, videos and share the same on Facebook. Your donors automatically get an email when you add an update. Please visit the link to see how to post an update: https://youtu.be/XN2y9O1z3d0

We have an automated system that identifies campaigns, which we could boost further through additional marketing efforts. The algorithm considers various criteria like the number of shares, the number of donations, the percentage of funds raised (usually ~ 30% of target) etc. After our algorithm identifies such a campaign, our marketing team will reach out to the campaign organizer about additional charges levied by the marketing platforms, to seek the consent of the campaign organizer. Post that consent, the campaign goes under amplify plan. It is a full system driven recommendation to maintain the neutrality of our platform.
We suggest you start a campaign and seek the help of friends, family, and also local media in spreading the word. That way you not only increase the chances of our system recommendation but also raise maximum funds without incurring additional fees.

Like any other company, Milaap has operating expenses like  technology, infrastructure, payroll & benefits for our dedicated team of employees. We have created this model so that we can continue to provide great service without worrying about our overheads.  Our team of well qualified professionals with strong focus on our donors and organizers ensure we provide a great experience in raising money for the causes they care for.
