Yes you can set the recommended donation amount for both INR and USD donation at the time of submitting the fundraiser. Do note this is just an indicative amount. Donors can always change and contribute any amount. Email us at feedback@milaap.org with the default amounts you'd like to set for the fundraiser.
Your fundraiser goes live immediately after submission. You can start accepting donations right away. However you'll be able to withdraw funds or appear in Milaap's fundraisers listing page only after a review by our team.
Our campaign managers manually review the page and documents (if any) provided by you. Once they've verified your credentials and the details provided on the fundraiser - we'll mark it as reviewed.
Yes, we understand that a large number of people set up fundraisers during emergency situations or have deadlines. Your fundraiser can accept donations as soon as you submit. However, we show a disclaimer on the page that the fundraiser is yet to be reviewed and recommend that visitors donate only if they know you or your needs. Funds can be withdrawn only after the review is done.

This would usually mean that more information regarding the fundraiser, usage of funds, and supporting documents is required. We will send you an email with details required, and will also share a link to schedule a call with us. While you can still accept donations, funds can be withdrawn only after the review is done.
We verify your credentials (PAN number, Mobile OTP verification and social graph) submitted along with fundraiser details, supporting documents (if any) and publicly available information (website, Facebook, Twitter accounts). Post that, we also do a call if we have further questions.
We strongly recommend the following -
  1. Login using your Facebook account to setup your fundraiser (we don't post anything on your wall).
  1. Add a display picture to your profile (if you login using Facebook, the display picture is automatically pulled)
  1. Ensure that your PAN number is correct.
  1. Explain the fundraiser goals, fund usage clearly. Add any external links (media coverage, website, Facebook page, Twitter account) that are relevant to the fundraiser.
  1. Add supporting documents - medical estimates, admission letters, invoices that can explain the fund requirement clearly.
Your fundraiser will appear in the search results only after it's reviewed. If your fundraiser is yet to be reviewed or requires more information for review, it will not appear in Milaap's listing page or in search engine results.

We've seen that successful fundraisers employ the following 6 steps  to get their initial momentum.
  1. Make the first contribution: Show that you're serious about the cause by making the first contribution to your fundraiser, however small it may be.
  2. Announce your fundraiser: Amplify your fundraiser by sharing your fundraiser page link on Facebook and Twitter. As more people share, more people visit your fundraiser page with an intent to contribute.
  1. Send your first email: Use our Email button to send emails to friends, colleagues and family in a single click.
  1. Change your cover picture: Change your Facebook cover picture with a small caption and link to your fundraiser page to drive more eyeballs to your fundraiser.
  1. Thank your donors:  Send a thank you note or tag them in a facebook post acknowledging their contribution. This encourages mutual friends to notice your fundraiser.
  1. Share updates: Send periodic updates to the donors using the Updates feature on the fundraiser page
Successful fundraisers have 4 common traits
  1. A powerful story: People think in stories. Tell the who, what, and why. Who is the fundraiser for? What are / were they like? What happened? Where is the beneficiary located? How will the funds be used? What is your relation to the beneficiary? And so forth. Don't worry about the form and structure - just tell your story in natural manner. Break it up in multiple paragraphs, as it will be easier to read.
  1. Telling your story honestly: Answer basic questions any reader would have, such as who the fundraiser is for; what happened; where, when, and why it’s important to you; how you know the organizer or beneficiary; and how the funds will be used.
  1. Including a breakdown of the costs that comprise the goal. For example, “How the funds will be used: Rs 10,00,000 will be used for the medical treatment. The remaining funds will be used for day-to-day medical expenses such as medicines, scans and doctor consultation."
  1. Supporting documents: Adding videos, high quality images and supporting documents explaining the need.
Almost. We allow people to raise money for projects or life events that are meaningful. However, we don't allow projects for political parties or religious constructions in compliance with local laws and guidelines. When in doubt, browse our categories of thousands of successful fundraisers to see how others use Milaap OPEN. We do reserve the right to take down a fundraiser, should it misrepresent facts or show inappropriate content.
Your fundraiser will be supported by the people in your life. This includes friends, family members, loved ones, coworkers, classmates and teammates. Only after your campaign receives the support of the people you personally know, can it begin to attract the support of others.
No, there are no deadlines or time-limits. Your fundraiser will remain live until you choose to stop donations. Most users leave their fundraisers live indefinitely as a lasting memory of all the wonderful comments and support they received.
Most fundraiser organizers want to raise funds within a particular time period. By showing the 'days to go' counter, donors understand the urgency of the requirement. You can always extend the fundraiser for as long as you want.
Note that your fundraiser can still accept donations even after campaign end date.
No problem. With Milaap, you keep each and every donation you receive. Reaching your goal is not required.
Absolutely. We take verification and authenticity of the fundraiser organizers very seriously. Milaap has the right to take down a fundraiser page should there be a misrepresentation of facts or identification details.
You can promote your fundraiser by reaching out to your friends and family on email and social media and asking them to contribute and share your fundraiser to their networks. Once you've raised your initial funds, reach out to local media or online news platform and seek their help in sharing your story. From time to time, we at Milaap also feature inspiring, purposeful fundraisers on our social media channels.
We've seen the best way to get your story reach a wider audience through media is when you pursue it yourself, since passion and authenticity is so important to be communicated. Your campaign manager will certainly help you with tips and guidance to reach the right platforms to share your story. Once your fundraiser gets good momentum, our team may contact you to connect with our partners too.
