Tailor's 8-Day-Old Baby Girl Born Without A Part Of The Food Pipe Needs An Urgent Surgery

“When the doctor confirmed that my wife, Shabnam was pregnant, my happiness knew no bounds. My wife and I started planning so many things and were very excited to welcome our new baby. But now all our dreams are shattered. I have not been able to hold my baby even once, she is undergoing one surgery after another. She needs a breathing support, I don't know what I can do to save her.” - Wasique, father.

The happy lives of the young parents came to a stand still when their baby was born with complications

Everything was going fine for Shabnam and Wasique till Shabnam had a premature delivery. Shabnam’s baby was born with esophageal atresia. It is a rare birth defect in which a baby is born without part of the esophagus which is the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach. Instead of forming a tube between the mouth and the stomach, the esophagus grows in two separate segments that do not connect.

“They told me that it was a girl and my eyes filled with tears. I had always wanted a baby girl. But very soon I was also informed that the baby is in a critical stage and that she needs to undergo surgeries to live.”

The little baby has undergone two surgeries but is still very critical and needs to stay in the hospital

The baby has undergone an operation just few hours after she was born. The baby’s life was not out of danger and another surgery had to be carried out. She is very underweight and the defect in her food pipe doesn’t allow her to breastfeed. The little baby gasps for every breath that she takes. The only way she can get a new life is through a surgery and a prolonged stay at the NICU.

“I wasn’t there with my wife during her delivery because I wasn’t able to get any leave from my job. She was in her father’s place. But all my days were spent worrying about Shabnam and our baby. When I heard that my baby was sick, I did not think twice before rushing to the hospital. I saw my baby for the first time and all I could see was just tubes and machines. My eyes teared up as I saw my little angel writhing in so much pain.”

The first-time parents are desperate to save their baby but money has become a huge roadblock for them

Wasique works as a tailor at a small tailoring shop and earns very less. His meagre income is not enough to support their family. Wasique and Shabnam’s baby girl needs to stay in the NICU for at least 15 days and she also needs to undergo another surgery to be completely fine. They have spent around Rs 3-4 lakhs and they are in need of another 3 lakhs and 18 thousand rupees. Without any help, these young parents will lose their only child.
