This 8-Year-Old’s Painful Battle With Liver Disease Will Break Your Heart

Allah Hafiz Ammi, I don’t think I will make through this” - these were Ayan’s exact words when he was writhing in pain just 2 days ago. His stomach is swelling up more and more with every passing day. His liver has given up on him completely - only a transplant can save his life now. His parents are struggling very hard to save their son but Ayan thinks his end is near.

“He told me he will not make it and I was numb for a few seconds. I couldn’t even speak after that. What do I tell him? How can I give him false hopes when I know that even if we try very hard we can never manage the cost of the transplant. We need you to help us, desperately,” - Zeenat, mother.

The last one month has been a nightmare for Ayan

Stomach aches and indigestion are common in children. Javeed and Zeenat always blamed it on the roadside food that Ayan loved. But last month, his condition became very serious. He started vomiting every single day and had loose motions too. They found out that Ayan is suffering from a liver disease

“His entire body had turned yellow. And his stomach was swelling up. We were so scared, we thought we won’t see him alive. He was admitted to a hospital in Warangal but even the doctors there gave up. They asked us to take him to Chennai, that was his last hope,” - Javeed, father.

They travelled in an overcrowded train with a sick child in their lap

By the time they were told that only going to Chennai can save Ayan’s life, Javeed had already spent a lot. He hardly had anything left to buy flight tickets.

“We had to take him in a train, without any reservation. We didn’t even get a seat - the entire time Ayan was lying down on my lap, crying out in pain. ‘Let him be alive till we reach the hospital, Allah, please - that’s the only prayer I had in my mind,” - Zeenat.

Empty pockets and the fear of losing his son - Javeed’s situation is unimaginable

Javeed has been running around frantically in an unknown city trying to make arrangements for Ayan’s transplant. He needs over 20 lakhs - that is an enormous amount for this father who has nothing left with him now. He has already spent more than 2 lakhs, for a middle-class family that is a lot.

“I haven’t been sleeping for the last two weeks. Sometimes, I skip my meals - Zeenat doesn’t know that. I don’t have money to buy food for both of us. The other day, I had fainted on the road, some strangers helped me up. I haven’t told Zeenat about this, she will be very upset. The only thing I think about is how to save Ayan,” - Javeed.

Javeed is a matched donor for his son. But Ayan needs the transplant urgently and Javeed doesn’t have the time to arrange for the money. The only way he can save his son now is with your help.

A happy and active child, Ayan now is battling severe liver disease. He needs an urgent transplant to live but his parents can’t afford it - you can save him
