This Mother Hid Her Cancer From Her Family For One Year And Now She Needs Help

When Rehana found a small lump near her right breast a year ago, she didn’t think much of it. She continued taking care of her family despite her pain. So as to not worry her husband and children, she kept mum. But she couldn’t hide it for long. By September, the lump had grown and had started bleeding. It was clear that Rehana needed treatment immediately. Rehana, 52-years-old, was diagnosed with breast cancer on September 25. She has undergone 3 cycles of chemotherapy so far, and has 17 cycles left. She needs surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy to live.

A doting, selfless mother now lays weak and helpless

Rehana’s 22-year-old daughter, Rubina, now takes care of everything at home and accompanies her mother to the hospital. She has put her career on hold to care for Rehana.

“My mother wasn’t able to complete her education, so she was very particular that I and my brother studied and made a name for ourselves. I completed BCom. this year and was looking for a job, but after my mother’s diagnosis, everything came to a standstill. I'm going to do what it takes to help her overcome this.”

Rehana’s diagnosis came as a shock to the entire family. They were devastated that she hid the pain for nearly a year to not worry them. However, Rehana’s condition is curable. With chemotherapy and surgery, she can go back to the life she knew.

“The minute I heard the word cancer, I panicked. I started to worry about how my mother would take it. She’s extremely sensitive. She has looked after and protected me all my life, now it's time for me to do the same for her.”

Rehana's family is desperately trying to save her

Rehana has already completed 3 cycles of chemotherapy. She still needs 17 cycles of chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery to be completely cancer free.

The disease has made Rehana extremely weak. She has lost over 10 kgs and all her hair, but Rehana is staying strong with the unrelenting support of her husband and children. They’re doing all they can to give her the treatment she needs, but they’re falling short of funds. Rehana’s husband is a driver at a school and earns Rs 12,000 per month. Her son is now desperately looking for work, while Rubina stays with her mother to take care of her. They now need 10.5 lakhs to pay for treatment.

“My mother is so giving. She has always been there for us. It makes us so sad that we’re being held back from saving her by our financial struggles. We’re helpless now. We’ve spent close to 2 lakhs on her treatment so far. We don’t have any more savings left.”

Rehana dedicated her life to taking care of her family. She has been their pillar of support all these years, and now they need your help to be hers.
