“We come from a very small village in Rampurhat in the district of Birbhum, West Bengal. There are only 6 families living in the village and all of us live together as if we are one big family. So when they heard about Ferdosi’s blood cancer, each of them came forward and contributed something. That’s how I got the Rs 7000 with which I brought Ferdosi to Kolkata. Her chemo has started but there is hardly any money left with me now. I have sold my wife’s only pair of gold earrings but I still can’t afford Ferdosi’s treatment,” - Kadam Rasul, father.
She woke us up every morning to help her get ready for school, now she can hardly get up from the bedKadam and his wife, Sachela Bibi never thought that Ferdosi’s recurrent fever and cough and cold would turn out to be symptoms of deadly cancer. The little girl has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and needs chemotherapy for the next six months. Her parents are heartbroken as they see their 4-year-old unable to even sit up in the bed. They are constantly reminded of the bubbly Ferdosi who woke up at the crack of dawn so that she could go to school on time.
“Ferdosi had been complaining of a stomach ache also. Homemade remedies weren’t helping so we took her to the doctor. When the tests were done, we were shocked to hear that all these symptoms were not because of a viral infection,” -Sachela, mother.
The earrings were the only thing we could sell, now we have nothing to afford her treatmentKadam Rasul is a daily wage labourer whereas Sachela Bibi is a housewife. There are some days of the month when Kadam doesn’t earn anything. He had no savings and the news of his daughter threw him off track. Sachela has readily sold her gold earrings for Ferdosi’s tests, but they are far from enough.
“Sachela and I often skip meals and save whatever is left from the contribution of our neighbours. It will get over soon but Ferdosi’s treatment has just started. There is no way that I can arrange for so much money,” - Kadam.
How you can helpKadam and Sachela have done everything they could to arrange money for their daughter’s treatment but they are nowhere near affording 3 lakhs. They are looking up to you for help. A small contribution from your side will go a long way to save little Ferdosi.
Your support can save the life of 4-year-old Ferdosi
