This 12-Year-Old Will Be Paralyzed For Life If She Doesn't Get Urgent Help

“I was standing beside my unconscious daughter, trying to wake her up, almost begging the doctors to look into her condition. ‘We are sorry, but there is nothing we can do about her,’ - they said. But I was not ready to accept that fate for her. I was determined to save her at any cost and took her to another hospital. She has been fighting for her life ever since. She needs to stay in the hospital for longer but I am out of money now,” - Debashish, father of 12-year-old Debolina.

Debolina suddenly fell unconscious on the floor of her school’s bathroom

Debolina showed no symptoms on that Saturday morning when she went to school. But half way through the day, she started feeling giddy. She went to the bathroom but when she didn’t come back even in 20 minutes, her friends went to check on her. Seeing her in a serious condition, the teachers immediately called Debashish, they also made arrangements to take her to hospital.

While we were in the ambulance, they told me she was lying on the floor of the washroom - her eyes rolled over, her fists clenched and froth coming out of her mouth. She was having frequent seizures even then. But once we reached the hospital she was unconscious. My heart skipped a beat, I thought I had lost her.”

The 12-year-old can’t move the right side of her body

Debolina suffered from a serious cerebral stroke - a lot of damage was already done to her brain due to interruption in supply of blood. She underwent brain surgery and is slowly recovering from the stroke. But she still has a long way to go. The stroke has paralyzed the right side of her body, she is unable to even lift a finger.

“She is slowly getting better but she is still not out of danger. She can't eat on her own. She eats only when we feed her - she can’t even speak. The deep scar on her head is an everyday reminder of the pain she is going through. She needs medical care but there is no way I can afford it any longer.”

Debolina would never walk again without treatment but her father can’t afford it

“I look at her lying down on the bed unable to do anything on her own and can’t help but cry. My wife, Runu, has almost stopped eating - she thinks our daughter will never be the same again. I know there is a way to cure her but I also know that it is way beyond my means. I have already spent 2 lakhs and I need about 8 lakhs more. Without help, I can never save Debolina.”

Her parents are worried that she won’t be recognize herself if she sees herself in the mirror.
