Crowdfunding - Truly The Power of Many

Another Step Forward

On the morning of November 4, 2014, Milaap's team woke up to this video. Having had the opportunity to be a fortunate part of this story, we were, needless to say, overjoyed. The same cheer goes around every single time. Each time another borrower realizes their goals through crowdfunding. Each time one of the strong, inspiring people who share their stories with our community gets a step closer to achieving the difference they want to impact. We're a small bunch of us, and every single day we find ourselves energized by the generosity of our community of lenders and the passion of the people they rally around to support. It inspires our mission to connect people who want to make a difference with those who want to uplift themselves and uplift others. We see this as a small thriving revolution, carrying India forward.

Not the Only Step, Though

Sandeep Mehto a graduate of TISS, is a farmer’s son and the first college graduate ever in his family. He founded Bharat Calling in 2009 to train, mentor, and support rural students so they can access higher education. He is fundraising to cover the cost of conducting 20 summer camps for 150 schools in rural Madhya Pradesh.[caption id="attachment_5846" align="aligncenter" width="590"]A young and passionate Sandeep Mehto is working to make quality education accessible to rural youth. They will receive guidance to make they own informed choices about which higher education course to select. Bharat Calling camp volunteers will help them fill out college application forms, and will coach them for their entrance examinations.

After 31-year-old Aditya Mehta, an amputee and a once-avid cyclist resumed cycling, he was unstoppable. He went on to design his own bicycle and artificial limb, started the Aditya Mehta Foundation, and began cycling around the country to raise awareness and funds for fellow amputees and para-athletes.[caption id="attachment_5849" align="aligncenter" width="590"]Aditya completed his ride to Khardungla, the world's highest motorable pass, on Independence Day 2014 . Training regularly on the Osmania University campus courts, he went on to represent India at the 2013 Para World Badminton Championship games. At 42, Srinivas Naidu, an above-knee amputee with a Jaipur foot represented India at the 2013 Para Triathlon Olympic Relay, swimming 750 meters. Abhishek, whose right leg has been non-functional since birth, rode on a borrowed bicycle to finish second worldwide in the Hero Asian Cycling championship. These are the three athletes for whom Aditya is running this fundraising campaign.

A Power That Won't Stop Giving

If you take the time to browse through the many projects running on Milaap Open, the many rural Indians seeking to uplift themselves through better livelihoods, education, clean energy, and basic sanitation, you will find yourself inspired. And yet, these are only a subset of the lives impacted globally every day through established crowdfunding sites that operate with transparent policies and updates on beneficiaries. (Milaap, proudly, is recognized as one of these.) The social media explosion opens up avenues you would have never imagined. If you've been looking for a way to make a difference, on your terms, your way, now is the time.
