“Spending every minute outside the operation theater feels like a decade. My 9-year-old daughter, Annasha has already undergone 2 surgeries. A terrible accident changed our lives forever. Her left side is paralysed, she can't identify us, she can't speak and there’s water accumulation in her skull. I don’t know if she will ever be the normal child we had. Her parents were terrified to see her lying in a pool of blood
Annasha had barely missed a day at school. On one unfortunate afternoon in March, she refused to go to school. Little did Nirmal and Mohua know that this day will turn out to be the darkest day of their lives. Annasha went to the terrace only to never return as a normal child again.
“5 minutes after she went to the terrace we heard a loud noise. We rushed to the terrace and found my little girl lying in a pool of blood. We couldn’t understand how she had fallen from the 2nd floor. She was scared of heights, she never went alone on the terrace. This was the first time that she went there alone."
After the accident, she can neither speak nor recognize her parents
Little Annasha has already undergone a surgery after her accident. The accident had also left her with breathing troubles. She underwent another surgery where a pipe was fit through her throat so that she could breathe. Now she also has water accumulated in her brain and she is undergoing a surgery to remove the water. Without this surgery, her brain can even stop functioning.
“Her left side has been paralysed since her accident. It’s very painful when your child doesn’t recognize you. She hasn’t been able to speak for the past 5 months. Her brain is severely damaged. It’s very painful to see her in this condition. I don’t know if she will ever recognize us again.”
Even after 2 surgeries, Annasha can barely move her left limbs
Annasha has been in the hospital for the past 5 months. Physiotherapy has helped her move her left limbs a little. She already had 2 surgeries. Water accumulation in the brain might turn fatal without the surgery. She needs another corrective surgery to recover completely.“My wife, Mohua is taking care of Annasha. She can’t do anything by herself and Mohua has to do everything for her. She is devastated and I don’t have any words to console her.”
Nirmal had no option but to borrow to save his daughter
Nirmal has a small cable operating business. He has already spent more than Rs 20 lakhs in just 5 months. He is neck-deep in debt already. He has borrowed from family, friends and from even mere acquaintances. He doesn’t even have anybody to turn back to.
