7-Year-Old Vanshika Will Lose Her Life To Blood Cancer If Not Treated Immediately

Diwali is a time of celebration with the family, but Vanshika and her parents will always remember it as the day they got the worst news of their lives. 7-year-old Vanshika was diagnosed with blood cancer this year on Diwali, after her parents took her to the doctor for a fever. Vanshika needs six more cycles of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant at the earliest to survive.

She Only Had One Hour To Get Admitted And Start Treatment Before Her Condition Worsened

Vanshika’s father, Sanjay, remembers that she was at first diagnosed with dengue when they took her to the doctor. Just a few weeks later, the doctors asked Sanjay to get her admitted in a hospital at the earliest. Vanshika was too sick to go another day without treatment.

“They told me I had only an hour to get her admitted and start treatment. We were so scared. We didn’t know what to do at that time. We didn’t even have the time to process that our daughter has blood cancer and that her life was in danger.”

What her parents thought was only a fever turned out to be a life-threatening disease for their little daughter. Vanshika was immediately admitted to Apollo hospital where her treatment began.

Vanshika Is Waiting To Go Home Again

Vanshika was an active and cheerful child. She loved going to school and meeting her friends. She and her younger brother enjoyed playing together. Now, Vanshika is too weak to even move from the hospital bed. Her parents are pained to watch her suffer so much every day. She doesn’t eat or sleep anymore
.

“She cries all the time. Every time she eats, she vomits her food. She also misses her friends and school very much. She has one best friend whom she used to play with every day. She keeps asking me when she can meet her again. I don't what to say to her.”

Vanshika wants to go home again. She doesn’t understand why she must spend all her time in a hospital or why she has suddenly become so weak.

Her Father, Forced To Close His Shop, Is Now Struggling To Pay For Her Treatment

Vanshika has Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, a severe form of blood cancer. She has already completed two cycles of chemotherapy, and will start the third cycle soon. Vanshika has also undergone a bone marrow test on November 28, 2017. Doctors advise that she continue chemotherapy and get a bone marrow transplant at the earliest. Her treatment is estimated to cost Rs 30 Lakhs.

Vanshika and her family come from a humble background. Sanjay owns a small grocery shop and can’t afford the large amount required for his daughter’s treatment. He was even forced to close his shop when she was hospitalized to be with her during her treatment. This has reduced his minimal income to almost nothing.

“She keeps telling me is that she wants to get better. I can’t let her down. I’m trying my best to do everything I can to save her. I’ve borrowed from relatives because I can’t even go to work regularly now with her treatment. My daughter needs me with her, but I also need to find a way to pay for her treatment. I feel so powerless now.”

Vanshika is determined to get better and is fighting hard to beat blood cancer. However, she needs chemotherapy and an immediate bone marrow transplant to be able go home again.
