Man Who Makes Rs. 200/day Needs Rs. 20 Lakhs To Save Daughter From Liver Failure

Papa does the panipuri uncle still sit beside your fruit cart? It’s been so long that I have had panipuri - it’s been so long that I have left home, when will you take me to the Mandir?” - Ashok has no answers to Swastika’s innumerable questions. He doesn’t know when he will be able to take his 12-year-old daughter for an outing and allow her to eat all her favourite food. Her liver is damaged due to excessive copper accumulation - she needs a transplant at the earliest.

Ashok and Savitra try to keep Swastika happy - her young brother also tries to cheer her up

An otherwise healthy child, Swastika started showing signs of the disease last summer

Swastika studies in standard 7th and has had an almost normal childhood like any other 12-year-old in her neighbourhood in Alandi, Pune. But since last summer, it seems as though, her troubles have become never-ending. She was diagnosed with Wilson’s disease last August and has been undergoing medications.

“The doctors told me that for people with this disease, the copper in the body doesn't get eliminated properly. Instead it accumulates, sometimes even to a life-threatening level. They had given her some medicines, but even that doesn't seem enough now,” - Ashok, father.

Suddenly, she was admitted to the hospital with a bloated stomach and severe respiratory distress

Ashok and his wife, Savitra had been taking really good care of their daughter since they got to know about her disease. But in November, last year, her condition worsened. Fluid accumulation in her abdomen swelled it up. She was also having trouble breathing.

“The night she started showing these symptoms, we got very scared seeing her in so much pain. We took her to the hospital in the middle of the night, all the while praying that she makes through this,” - Savitra.

'My daughter needs a transplant as soon as possible but with my fruit seller’s income it’s impossible'

The last time Swastika was admitted to the hospital in November, she had to stay there for 10 days. They gave her medicines but also told Ashok and Savitra that without a liver transplant, she would never get better.

“I earn about Rs 200 everyday and every day I spend almost the entire amount on Swastika’s medicines. I have already spent Rs 3 lakhs - my savings are exhausted and there is no one from whom I can borrow anymore. The transplant will cost me Rs 20 lakhs and I am willing to be the donor. But if you don’t help me I will lose my daughter.”

How you can help

Swastika wants to go back to her normal life, to meet her school friends but without your help, she won’t be able to get that life-saving transplant. Even a small contribution from your side can bring back their happiness.

With your help, Ashok and Savitra can save their daughter
