Young Boy Battling Cancer Feels Like A Burden For Putting His Family Into Massive Debt

Every time my son wants to get up from the bed, he looks at me. I can see him writhing in pain when I pick him up but he insists on sitting on his wheelchair and move near to the window. He was fit and healthy and was preparing for his final exams in school when he was diagnosed with cancer. We made every effort to not let my son know the bitter truth. But he came to know about it. And now he just blames himself for putting us through tough times. Every time I see him crying uncontrollably, it crushes my heart”- Kulbir Singh, father

Blood cancer has taken over Anurag’s life that left his parents in a state of utter despair

Anurag was eagerly waiting for his final exams to get over so that he could enjoy summer vacations playing cricket with his friends. When Anurag ran a high temperature one day and the excruciating pain in his legs was not allowing him to stand or walk, his parents worriedly took him to the hospital. After a  few tests, he was diagnosed with blood cancer. For Anurag’s parents, it was a bolt from the blue. They couldn’t think of anything other than saving their son from this deadly disease at any cost.

Anurag’s parents believed he recovered after a few chemo sessions, but his condition only got worse with time

Anurag is suffering from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), a life-threatening type of cancer that starts in the bone marrow and spreads aggressively if immediate treatment is not given. By taking a huge loan, Kulbir Singh started his son on chemotherapy, which continued for 3 months. Anurag's health was making progress, but after a few days, he got very weak again. Now only a bone marrow transplant and more rounds of chemotherapy can save him. The doctors said, Anurag’s sister Prachi (9) is a perfect match for Anurag and she can be his donor for the transplant, but money is a big obstacle.

“ I’ve tried every possible way to comfort him, but I have not been able to provide him relief from the pain he’s going through. Whenever he asks me for how long does he have to go through such pain, I try to control my tears and say that we will go home soon. Anurag was a positive boy who always spread happiness around him, why does he have to go through such terrible pain?” - Mounika

Kulbir Singh is a farmer who has incurred huge debts and has no money to save his son

As a farmer, Kulbir Singh could only earn Rs 30,000 every six months. He took a loan of 10 lakhs which is to be paid with high interest for his son’s treatment. Now he exhausted all the money he had and has no one to help him save his son.

“ Despite difficulties, I made every effort to provide my children with a good life. I pleaded everyone I know to help me save my son. Every penny that I borrowed, I have spent on my son's treatment. Now I have a standing debt of 10 lakh which is to be paid with interest and I’m left with nothing to save my son from this fatal disease.” - Kulbir
