Mujeeb with his parents at the hospital
In just three days, Mujeeb became very sick, and lost consciousness
Mujeeb developed a fever on Saturday, October 21. By Sunday night his fever and vomitting intensified and he needed to be admitted in the hospital. By Monday, his condition became very critical and he needed continuous breathing support and dialysis because of organ failure.
Even though in most cases dengue can be managed at home, Mujeeb is one of the unlucky 4% whose body goes into a shock because of the infection. Mujeeb's parents are in stunned at seeing him unconscious and admitted to the intensive care unit.
Mujeeb needs to be in the hospital for 8-12 days to get better
“Mujeeb is an active, healthy boy so to see him like this is very painful. My wife keeps crying, but I try to tell her that everything will be okay. Both of us cannot be weak when our son needs us so much. So I confidently tell them that Mujeeb will be fine,” explains his father Yakhub.
But Yakhub is just as worried that he will not be able to afford Mujeeb's treatment which can run up to Rs 1 lakh a day. For just two days, he has needed to borrow Rs 3 lakhs. A part of the bill is still pending and Yakhub doesn't know how he will arrange to pay for treatment.
Before he became sick, Mujeeb was an active, happy 13-year-old
“I am an RTC conductor in Hyderabad. I earn only Rs 15,000 and I have spent everything we had on treatment till now. The doctors have told us that Mujeeb will get better if his condition is monitored but if I don't get money, my situation will be the reason my son doesn't get better,” Yakhub says.
Yakhub needs help saving MujeebAt the moment, there is a lot of internal bleeding in Mujeeb's body. But with treatment, he will get better because he is a young, healthy child. But to get better, he needs to remain in the ICU for the next 8-12 days and his blood levels need to be monitored constantly.
Yakhub, a bus conductor is Hyderabad has very limited means. He has run out of funds to pay the rest of the hospital bill. He is already in debt and he is asking everyone for help saving his first child. Raising funds online is his only hope. Contribute and help this 13-year-old beat a terrible illness and get better.
