“Our relatives told us that he will not survive and that there was no use of getting him treated. They said it was a waste of money and refused to help us in any way, but we didn’t give up.” – Kunjula, mother
6 months ago, when little Haney was diagnosed with blood cancer, Kunjula and Aman wasted no time in taking him from their home in Rajasthan to Gurgaon for his treatment. They did everything they could to get him treated so far, without much help. When their relatives gave up on their baby, these parents fought harder to save him. However, now they are helpless.
Haney with his mother a few weeks before his bone marrow transplant
He spent his first birthday getting painful injectionsAman, a bus driver, had to go back to Rajasthan to work. It’s the only way they could manage to continue the treatment. Kunjula and Haney haven’t gone home ever since his chemotherapy began. They shuttle between their small rented room and the hospital. Haney even spent his first birthday in the hospital, getting painful injections.
“Sitting here with my baby for his chemo cycles, the only thought that went on in my mind is that he should get cured soon. It’s the most helpless feeling, watching your baby suffer so much but not being able to do anything.”
Unfortunately, chemotherapy wasn’t enough to save Haney. He needed a bone marrow transplant.
No one can enter Haney’s ward now, even a small infection can be fatalWith the help of their friends and crowdfunding, Haney underwent the bone marrow transplant one week ago. Kunjula was the donor. However, his fight isn’t over yet. He is extremely vulnerable to infections and needs to stay in an isolated ward to start recovering.
“No one else can come to visit him. Even a small infection can be dangerous now. It’s crucial that we continue his treatment, but after all these months, we don’t have much left.”
Aman earns Rs. 5,000 every month, and the rent for the small room that Kunjula has rented in Gurgaon is Rs. 5,000. His income is barely enough to afford their daily meals and he can't even be with his baby during his treatment. He just can't afford his treatment any longer.
Haney needs to stay in the hospital for longer to fight cancer for good. He has fought bravely so far, but he needs your help in the last leg of his treatment. You can save his life.
