Meet Golap who wants her daughter to get the best education

I went to meet Deepak, and his mother Golap, a member of Maa Tarini JLG (Joint Liability Group) in Bhuvaneshwar, on 31st  of October, 2014. She lives in Rental colony of Behrera Basti with her husband and two children. Golap works as a tailor while her husband runs a saloon. The total family income is around Rs 30,000 per month. Golap had taken a loan of Rs 20,000 almost six months back from Milaap for funding the education of her son Deepak who is enrolled in the city Montessori School in Bhubaneshwar in LKG. The loan amount was used for paying the various educational expenses such as admission fees, tuition fees and other related expenses. The motivation for Golap to take Milaap loan is to assist her husband carrying the burden of family expenses.  She could be only granted a loan of only Rs 20,000 which is often based on the assessment done by the Milaap field partner. She had a very good experience with Milaap and the field partner, Mahashakti Foundation and is quite happy with the loan. She expects that in future based on her timely repayment record she would be able to avail loans of more amounts in future.
