Despite Being Critically Ill Leema Wants to Postpone Her Transplant and Wants to Write Her Board Exams.

"For 17-year-old Leema, it has been 13 long years of suffering from a critical genetic blood disorder. She was 4 when she diagnosed with the disease and has undergone countless sessions of blood transfusion in the last 13 years. She still visits the hospital twice a month to get the transfusion done. Over the years her physical growth has slowed down, however, her over the years she has become much more intelligent, spends most of her time with books and aspires of becoming a doctor."

But all of her studies and her efforts will go in vain if she doesn't get healthy soon. Her body is racing against time and eventually will become prey to an extremely dangerous disease called thalassemia. Her only cure is to undergo a bone marrow transplant, which has to happen in near future.

Finding a bone marrow donor would have been easier had she been their own child.

18 years ago when Arul and Samuel met a 3-month-old beautiful baby girl they had never thought life would become so hard when she becomes a young girl.

Arul and Samuel did not have children of there own but they always wanted to raise a child. The idea of raising a child always thrilled them and made them adopt 3-month-old baby and name her Leema.

For the first 4 years, Leema had a normal growth but since then life became a challenge. Her growth stopped she used to frequently fall ill and the illness lasted for a long time. Once she was diagnosed with thalassemia, it became supercritical for her to timely get her blood transfusions done.

It initially started with once in two months and it has now increased to thrice in a month.

In last two years, her health condition has worsened and doctors have clearly instructed to undergo a bone marrow transplant.

"We were forced to tell her because of this disease that she was an adopted child. This disease is hereditary it comes only through the real parents." - Arul

Medical expenses have taken a toll on family's finances.

"I do not regret my decision. I'm ready to do anything for her. I have already sold all that I had. I managed her to raise her as a happy child. I made her believe that it is totally normal to have such conditions and not even once she felt sad or odd with us. I know how to keep her happy but her health is not in my hands" - Arul
Recently, Leema had developed an eye infection. She used to often complain about that but the treatment could not start because the parents could not afford it. Now the infection has spread and they are forced to do it, which will cost another lakh.

The family is in desperate need to funds to for the treatment.
