The people of La Kabouy (Haiti) had been suffering for five years. With a broken well and no other clean water to speak of, they used to go to the river and dig a hole in the sand to sift out the dirt. The result may have looked fairly clear and clean, but it was still contaminated. Fisherman, children playing and bathing, and animals all shared in this water. Some concerned community members recently formed a water committee to take charge, get the well repaired, and see this situation change in their village.
