6-year-old Guru Prasath was born with Arnold Chiari Malformation, a condition in which his brain tissue extends into the spinal canal. The problem was diagnosed only a year back when he had a seizure in his classroom. During the diagnosis, they found out that he also has cervical syrinx with hydrocephalus, a condition where excess fluids build-up in the brain’s cavity and spine.
He stopped playing in school as he was afraid of being pushed down by kids
He is a quiet and sweet boy who loved going to school, studying and playing with his friends. After he got seizures, he started having difficulty walking and became slow. A few weeks back I noticed that his hands were twitching and he was struggling to hold his pencil. We took him to the doctor immediately and they told my child needs an urgent surgery - Sudha
He underwent two operations in three days, one to remove the cerebral fluid and the other to correct the extended brain tissue in the spine. Due to the surgery in his brain, he is exhibiting symptoms like not remembering things and problems with the speech which will go away if he recovers after another surgery.

He left his job, sold his van - but nothing is enough
Guru has to undergo one more surgery where a medical device will be penetrated deep inside the brain’s cavity to remove the excess fluid that has accumulated. The whole procedure will cost around Rs 7 lakhs and his parents cannot afford that much money. Rajasekar is a van driver and he has left his job to take care of his son in the hospital."I have already borrowed money and sold the van that I depend upon for a living.
