Help 3-year-old Sathya, Daughter of a Daily-Wage Worker to Undergo a Heart Surgery

3-year-old Sathya was diagnosed with Congenital Heart disease when she was only 3 months old. Baby Sathya should undergo a surgery to survive but her parents can't afford it and this has put her life in danger.

Early treatment can save her life

Kumaraswamy and Revathi were thrilled to welcome Sathya into their lives. They felt that their family was complete. Their happiness did not last for a long time. 3-month-old Sathya became breathless and was rushed to  the hospital. Right then, the doctors told the parents that Sathya needed a surgery to live.

Sathya has not said a word in the last few months

Her parents are saving to make the surgery possible at the soonest. But soon another nightmare began for the family. They were looking forward to their daughter calling them ‘amma’ (mother) and ‘appa’ (father). They were hopeful that at least a few words would slip out. But they were devastated when they realised that she was unable to speak. Her mother is trying all the possible means to help her speak but they don't have much hope.

“I can’t bear to see my child growing with so many difficulties. I feel completely shattered when she is ridiculed by other children or sometimes even adults for not picking up any words and not responding”

Her father is a contract labourer who barely earns Rs 500

Kumaraswamy is a contract labourer and earns Rs 200 – Rs 500 per day. He has a 4-year-old son and this family of four is dependent on him. The cost of the surgery is beyond his means. Right now, he is finding it hard to even continue treatment.

“No parent should outlive their child! I’m having sleepless nights. The doctor says surgery is the only solution. I would do anything to keep her alive and healthy but I don’t know how I can earn so much money in time.”

They can begin treatment only when they have collected the funds

Sathya’s parents have been moving to hospitals for the past 3 years and have exhausted all the little savings they had. If they can’t arrange the funds, they have no other option but to give up the treatment and let fate take its course. It is already too late and the doctors say that baby may not survive if proper treatment is not given at the earliest.
