Parents Who Lost Their First Son To Cancer Are Struggling To Save Their Premature Baby Now

We lost our first son to cancer in 2016. He died when he was just 2 years old. We missed him every day. When my wife was pregnant again we believed that our prayers were answered and our son was coming back to us. But now my newborn baby is battling for life in the ICU. We don’t want to lose our child again” Govind Raj.

Rajee had to undergo an urgent C- section in her 29th week of pregnancy

Rajee and Govind's first son passed away despite all their efforts and prayers. The devastated couple had lost all their hope in life, but thankfully Rajee got pregnant the second time. She followed all the instructions given by doctors religiously. Unfortunately, during pregnancy Rajee's blood pressure was too high and the blood flow to the baby started slowing down. So an immediate C- section was done.

"When doctors told that an immediate C- section has to be done to save the baby, I was heartbroken. I thought we were dying. Only when I heard the sound of his cries I got my life back. But he was extremely tiny weighing only 800 g and was immediately taken to ICU. When I looked at him for the first time, he was struggling to breathe. It has been a month and we are still in the hospital. I can't go back home without him, there's no purpose for us to live without our baby." - Rajee.

Rajee's baby is slowly getting better and he needs 3-4 weeks of ICU stay to recover completely

Rajee and Govind's newborn baby boy has premature lungs and respiratory distress. He is in the ICU but is slowly recovering - within 3-weeks this baby has gained 1 kilo. He is now able to feed milk on his own without tubes. He needs 3-4 more weeks of ICU stay to gain adequate weight. Doctors are hopeful that the baby can recover completely and be healthy if the treatment is continued.

"My husband has gone back to Salem for work, I live in a rented room in Coimbatore. I go to the hospital early morning and leave only in the night. How can I sleep peacefully? I cry all alone the whole night, my husband is struggling to make money for the treatment and I'm watching helplessly. I don't know what I can do to save my baby." - Rajee.

Parents do not have anyone to help and have exhausted all their options

Govind has a small workshop in Salem. For the past 5 years, he has been spending all that he earns for the treatment. He had spent almost everything he had for his first son. He is struggling for every rupee and doesn't know whom to turn to for help.

"I was born into a poor family but I have always helped people with whatever I can, but now I have no one to help. My own family is not talking to me because they are scared that I will ask for money. I wish that they had at least given us moral support. We are alone now. We have lost everything we had, both money and people. All we have is our baby who is battling for his life. I don't have anything left with me but I can't lose him at any cost." - Govind Raj.
