A Miscarriage Took Away Their First Baby, Now They Might Lose Another To Heart Disease

“I lost my first baby in the sixth month of my pregnancy one year ago. It was so painful, so traumatic… it took me a very long time to come out of it. I lost my child before it could even see the world. Now I’m scared I’ll lose another baby.” – Shalini, Mother.

Shalini’s grief came to an end when she got pregnant again but

She was so happy and excited to welcome her little daughter. Her now three-month-old baby girl Pavani was healthy when she was born. After a few weeks of the baby's birth, the parents noticed that the baby had difficulty breathing and her pulse was getting weaker. They took her to the hospital immediately where, she was diagnosed to have Cardiac Type TAPVC, a condition where there is a defect in the veins leading from the lungs to the heart.

Our whole world crumbled again when the doctor said my child could die

"I cannot forget that day when my baby woke up in the middle of the night struggling to breathe. Back then, we didn’t know she had a problem in her heart. She was finding it difficult even to cry and her pulse was getting weaker. She was not responding to us. My wife and I started to panic and thought we were going to lose her too. My wife started crying out, hugging the child. She thought that the baby died. We rushed to the hospital in the middle of the night and we were only relieved when the doctor said Pavina is alive... but she won't survive for long without a surgery." - Manikandan, Father

Baby Pavani has a condition in which the blood does not take a normal route from the lungs to the heart. Only surgery can correct the normal blood flow through the heart. The whole procedure will cost around Rs. 2,50,000 including the surgery, ICU and medications for recovery. The baby has high chances of survival if she gets the surgery, but the parents are in a situation where they can't afford such a huge amount in a short time.

But where will I go and to whom will I beg for such a huge amount?

"I’m a bus driver who drives 9 hours at a stretch every day to earn a daily wage of Rs.450. The banks won’t give me a loan and our neighbours are hesitant to lend me money, thinking I won’t be able to repay. I don’t want to lose my baby and I can’t see my wife getting into depression again. She has already suffered so much. All she wished for was to become a mother."

Shalini and Manikandan will lose their second child soon if she doesn’t get a surgery at the earliest. After selling their jewellery and borrowing money from their friends they could manage to collect only a meagre amount that is insufficient even to buy daily medicines.

Pavina is becoming weaker each day and cannot breathe normally without the help of medicines. Medicines can keep her alive only for a few weeks and only surgery will save her life. The baby's parents are in a helpless situation and need your help.

Please help baby Pavina live. With your generous contribution, you will be helping a struggling family who is trying hard to keep their little daughter alive.
