Misti was 5 months old when she was diagnosed with cancer. We smile when she smiles. But her smile also reminds us of what she is fighting and then there are only tears.
Baby Misti is fighting cancer. She is just 1 year old right now and her parents cannot imagine losing her to this terrible disease. But what can they do? They are poor and cannot afford her treatment.
My name is Anirban. I’m lucky to be the father of a beautiful baby girl. I also count myself unlucky because our time with her has taught me not to take anything for granted. We were so smitten with Misti that we didn’t take our eyes off her. In a way, this helped us notice something was wrong. I never imagined my 5-month-old daughter would be fighting death.
Even you would not have believed that this 5-month-old has cancer
It was like a season of festivities when Misti was born. Everyone wanted to come meet her, hold her and take a picture. We noticed that she had a small bump on her forehead. When the swelling got worse, we took her to the doctor. A series of tests followed and then we were given the diagnosis – my little daughter has cancer.
We were broken. If you look at Misti, you would never believe something horrific was killing her from within. I was in denial. I felt like I could lay down my life before I accept this diagnosis. But, there was no escaping. This was the truth.
It has been a rough journey. My child is so much pain, she can't bear it
We immediately took her to Delhi for treatment. We have been staying here since then. I quit my job to be by her bedside. Misti has been getting aggressive treatment and as her parents, we make sure to never leave her. If it was not for my family, we would have probably been out on the streets by now.
In 6 months, there has not been much progress. We are just keeping her alive with these treatments, always uncertain of how things may proceed. Misti is staying strong although she is constantly in pain with needles poking her every now and then.
There is a cure for Misti, She can be saved
The doctors have told us about a drug called ANtiCD19 – Blincyto. This is probably Misti’s only chance at survival. She needs this drug to bring down her blast count and MRD levels, so she can have a bone marrow transplant.
How you can help this baby
Over the last 6 months, we have spent everything we had. Every family member has contributed their savings. We have even spent the money we had collected over years for my sister’s wedding. She needs to be given 14 of the life-saving tablets. These tablets have been successfully used on 3 patients before, and have worked wonders to lower cancerous cells. But each tablet costs Rs. 2.55 Lakh and we are scared we might lose her because we don't have the money.
We are very close to saving baby Misti now. You have helped her once, and that helped us keep her alive so far. Please help us give our baby a second chance at life.
