8-Year-Old Has Dropped Out Of School To Fight A Liver Disease, Needs Urgent Liver Transplant To Survive

I am Binay Upadhyay, father of 8-year-old Naiteek Upadhyay. Like any other child his age, my son was supposed to be in school right now, up to some new mischief every day with kids of his age. But instead, he is at home, in bed, unable to play or eat due to a condition that is hell-bent on destroying a future that had just started to take roots. Even though in pain, my baby is so brave and full of life but his disease is making it difficult for him to carry on much longer!

His 8th birthday was spent in a clinic

Two days before his birthday, he was diagnosed with Jaundice. Treatment started and he was cured within a week. Since he was diagnosed and recovered soon, we didn't worry much about it. But again after three-four days, Naiteek began to show symptoms of jaundice.

We took him to the same doctor in Pune. After confirming the diagnosis, the doctor asked us to immediately take him to some better hospital as it is highly strange for a kid to be inflicted with Jaundice twice within a week's time.

By the time we took him to a bigger hospital, Naiteek started showing considerable swelling of his abdomen and limbs. It was in that hospital that the doctor suspected Wilson's disease. We again shifted Nateek to KEM Pune where it was confirmed that he has Wilson's disease. This was in the month of May.

Wilson's disease is a rare genetic disorder that causes copper poisoning in the body. This is why the doctor has asked us to stop giving him any food that has copper. But these days, it is very hard to identify such foods. Due to this, we are not even able to feed our son anything beyond idlis or dosas.  Can you imagine the life of a child who at the mere age of 8 has to go through all this? We cannot bear to see our only child in so much pain right before our eyes.

As it stands, the only way to save Naiteek and give him any semblance of normal life is Liver Transplant. Luckily, I can be a donor for my son. The transplant is to be undertaken at Sahyadri Hospital, Pune. All tests have been conducted, and I am a good match. The only thing standing between my son and a normal life is the financial cost of the transplant.

We have nothing left to save our son

I work in a private company for Rs. 12,000 per month. I have started doing over time so that I earn Rs.2000- Rs. 3000 more. At this stage, even a single rupee saved can be used for saving my son's life. My wife is a housewife and we stay in Pune with my parents. The estimated cost of entire treatment is Rs. 22 lakhs and being the sole earning member of the family, it is nearly impossible for me to arrange such a huge amount. It is for this that I seek your help. Please help this poor father save his child. I will be forever grateful.

How you can help

It is only after the parents manage to arrange the entire amount will the surgery take place. Without surgery, chances of survival for Naiteek is very low. Your contribution could save a life and give a child a future that he deserves.
