My son is 4 years old. He is supposed to be going to school. Within 3 months of joining, his disease took over his entire life. We thought one curative treatment can save him from the wretched Fanconi Anemia. Unfortunately, his body rejected the transplant. Now, he is fighting to stay alive. And, he needs another surgery to make it to the rest of his life.
When he was 2 years old, Yoganandha came down with a fever. We took him to a government hospital. Though they tested him for dengue, they concluded it was just a viral fever. He did not get better on the medicines. In fact, he kept falling sick. We took him to several hospitals and finally landed at Rainbow. There also they put us on medicines for 2-3 months.
Yoganandha began bleeding. It wouldn’t stop. The doctors at Rainbow tested his blood count. He had a very low platelet count. Over two years, they ran a panel of tests. We tried a lot of treatments but nothing worked on him. For two years, we have had to go for blood transfusions every few days so he would stay alive.
In December 2016, Yoganandha was diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia. This disease causes the bone marrow to stop producing all blood cells. He would eventually bleed out. As soon as they diagnosed him, the doctor said he needed a bone marrow transplant. Time was of the essence. The longer we delayed, the lesser chance we had of saving him. He was already bleeding now and then.
My son does not even know what is happening to him. We just tell him it is fever and he cannot go out because he will get infected. He listens to us. And he has gotten used to being in the hospital. He feels this is normal.
We collected as much funds as possible and went for the transplant in April. Unfortunately, my his body rejected the transplant. His condition is critical now. Especially because he has had chemotherapy and his body is vulnerable to infections. He needs another bone marrow transplant to save his life. There is no other way out for us. He is just 4 years old. We need help to ensure he was a long life ahead.
