With No Support From Alcoholic Husband, This Mother Struggles Alone To Save Daughter From Cancer

"I called my husband and told him that our daughter has cancer, but he did not show up for a week. Even when he did, he left in a few minutes. He didn’t even talk to her or ask me anything about her treatment. I was devastated, I know I have to do this all on my own now. My Bhavishree is very scared, she bleeds from her mouth, she’s in so much pain…and her own father doesn’t care.” - Gowrama, Mother of 8-year-old Bhavishree

A fall from the swing was the beginning of her painful journey

It was a Sunday evening, Bhavishree was playing on the swing with her friends in the neighbourhood. Suddenly, she lost her balance and fell down. She came home crying, bleeding a little from her mouth. The next night she began to bleed profusely from her gums. Her mother took her to a local hospital and she was told that it is just infections and prescribed medicines, but her bleeding did not subside. She took her to a hospital in Chennai and the tests confirmed that she has acute blood cancer and has to start with chemotherapy immediately.

“She thinks she’s in the hospital because she has hurt her tooth. She says she’ll never play on the swing again, she just wants me to take her home. But she has to be here for at least 9 more months to get chemotherapy.” - Gowrama

My husband has not spent even a rupee on her treatment

Gowrama's husband is a daily wager but he spends all his income on alcohol and does not support the family in any way. Gowrama has a cow in her house and she managed to take care of her daughter by selling milk. Now she stays at the hospital and has no income at all. She needs 10 lakhs for the treatment without which she would lose her only daughter. Alone in a new city, with no support, Gowrama is helpless.

"I have been able to manage all these days only with my brother's help, but how long can he help us, he has a family too. Everyone in the ward knows that I'm alone and I skip my meals to feed my child. Sometimes, they buy food for me. But I need help to continue her treatment. I don't know what will happen to her, I cannot lose her. All I have is my daughter," - Gowrama
Bhavishree has a good chance of recovery if she gets the treatment at the right time. Her mother is desperately waiting for your help. Your contribution can help her survive.
