This Mother Is Alone In Her Fight To Save Her 7-Month-Old From Eye Cancer

“I’m not new to suffering or pain. I have been born with it. I work as a coolie at a construction site and support my husband and in-laws. They, however, are least bothered about me. My husband left me to work even when I was 7 months pregnant. The supervisor at my workplace saw me climbing the stairs with heavy load and scolded me to go home and rest. He said he would pay me my daily wages until the baby was born. A stranger could understand my pain and help me whereas my own family can't.” – Neelavathi, Mother.

Neelavathi, a coolie, from a small village in Mysore is now desperate to save her daughter from deadly cancer that has already snatched her son away 7 years ago. After years of depression due to her child’s demise, she found hope with the birth of her daughter.

How can someone so tiny go through so much pain?

This is the first question that would run through one’s mind when you look at Baby Pooja who is barely 7-months-old and is diagnosed with Retinoblastoma, an eye cancer that begins in the Retina.

“I lost my first baby when he was just 3. My life has been dark ever since. Then 7 months ago, I found life again through my second baby, but now she is not alright. She has cancer in the eye. I cannot let go of her. She is all that I have. I’m not even able to enjoy her innocent smile and laughter. It breaks my heart to think I may not be able to retain that joy in her for long.” – Neelavathi, Mother.

One would think at least now she can find some happiness in her life. But fate had other plans. Her 7-month-old daughter, Pooja, is also diagnosed with the eye cancer that could cost her eye or worse, her life if not treated in time.

Pooja needs to undergo Chemotherapy for 6 months. The treatment cost would go up to 7 lakhs, an amount that Neelavathi cannot even imagine to afford.

The only thing that poor Neelavathi is holding on to is her determination to save her daughter who is the only sunshine in her dark world. Neelavathi begs for your help to save her little baby.
