In Just 2 Days Their Newborn Became Critical, Now These Parents Need Your Help To Save Her

May 24th, probably a regular day for us. But for Pragya and Shiv Kumar, it was the happiest day of their lives. It was the day their first child, a beautiful baby girl, was born. Unfortunately, their happiness was short lived. So short lived that just two days after her birth, the baby girl fell terribly ill, leaving Pragya and Shiv Kumar devastated. They had only one thought running through their minds – will we lose our first child?

They feel like they’ve failed as parents

On May 27th, Pragya’s baby was taken to the NICU because of juvenile jaundice and a severe blood infection. The baby also had diarrhoea.

“She was just a few days old and she had to have so many medicines and injections. She could barely open her eyes. I felt defeated, lost. If I can’t protect her…save her.. then I have failed as a mother.” – Pragya

But Pragya and Shiv Kumar have done all they can to save their baby girl. In fact, it is their relentless efforts that have brought their baby so far. She is slowly improving, but she needs to stay in the hospital for longer to recover. She is so close to going home, but if they can’t afford her treatment for the next few days, all their efforts will be in vain.

Pragya can’t leave her baby and Shiv Kumar can’t stay with her

Shiv Kumar is a tailor. These days his days begin very early, and his nights end late. He works overtime to make sure he can keep his baby in the hospital. He sees her before work early in the morning and hopes that when he comes back, she’s still there. His greatest fear is losing her. While Shiv Kumar can barely spend a few minutes with the baby, Pragya doesn’t leave her side.

“Sometimes she even refuses to eat on the days that the baby doesn’t feed. She says how can she eat when our baby is suffering so much. The past few weeks have been very tough on us. I’ve spent Rs. 40,000 on her treatment so far, that’s all of my savings. I don’t have anything else left.” – Shiv Kumar

Together, we can help this baby girl go home healthy.
