This Father Has Nearly Lost Everything In His Fight To Save His Newborn

“These past two months have left me with nothing. There was a point where I thought I would lose my newborn and my father…when our baby boy was born, he was rushed to the NICU. He was too weak to survive without the machines. A day after that, my father suddenly got paralyzed due to a rare disease. Running from one hospital to another, on the verge of losing my family…I’ve exhausted everything I had. And yet, our son is still not out of danger.” – Sreeganapathy, father

Sreeganapathy hasn’t had a minute’s break in the past 2 months. He had to continue going to work while taking care of his family. Sleep has evaded him, meals left untouched – he has just one aim in mind, to save his newborn baby.

This mother wasn’t worried about her own life, she just wanted her baby to survive

In their 6 years of marriage, Divyabharathi and Sreeganapathy have seen many ups and downs together. Trying to have a baby was one of their biggest struggles. Two years ago, Divyabharathi had an ectopic pregnancy – when the fertilized egg attaches outside the uterus. This is extremely rare and dangerous for the mother. The embryo won’t be able to develop to term and needs to be removed immediately.

“Divya wasn’t worried about herself then, all she was worried about is whether the baby will survive. Whether she will ever be a mother again…they told us that she might not..

But this February brought them the good news. Divyabharathi was pregnant and as the months passed by, all her tests were normal. There was nothing to worry about.

It was supposed to be a moment of joy but..

Unfortunately, in the 7th month of her pregnancy, Divyabharathi began experiencing labour pains. On June 7th, they were blessed with a baby boy. But his fight had only begun – he couldn’t breathe on his own, his lungs were extremely underdeveloped and he had a hole in his heart. He was rushed to the NICU and put on ventilator support.

“We could touch him only 2 weeks after he was born. We still can’t carry him. Imagine waiting all these years for a baby, and not even being to hold him.” – Divyabharathi, mother

2 ICU bills to pay and a family to support

Sreeganapathy is an electrical engineer. He has spent over 9 lakhs on his newborn’s treatment so far. He has spent a lot on his father's treatments also - all with the help of his friends and relatives. Now his baby needs to stay in the NICU for longer to make it, but he just can’t afford it. He has no savings and his income isn’t enough to afford the 16 lakhs needed to save his only child.

“I earn enough to support my family…but all my savings went in the checkups during my wife’s pregnancy. We wanted to do everything to make sure she was okay, I wanted to give her the best care…I had to spend lakhs on my father’s ICU stay as well..now I have nothing.” - Sreeganapathy

After 6 years, Divyabharathi and Sreeganapthy finally found happiness. But their newborn is now fighting for his life in the NICU. Only you can help save him.
