One Of These Premature Twins Is Fighting For Her Life And You Can Help Her Come Home

Harshada and Khanderao have been married for two years now. Excited about the prospect of having a family, the couple were elated when Harshada was pregnant. The news that they were to be blessed with twins sent seemed like an added blessing. They had even started baby proofing their small house when fate caught them unaware.

and the entire responsibility of twins' medical needs has fallen on his shoulders.

No happy beginnings for this baby-

When Harshada was six and half months pregnant, her water broke and she had to be rushed to a hospital for emergency C-section. Her condition was critical and staying inside the womb for much longer was dangerous for the twins. The couple had no other option but to agree to this dangerous procedure. The surgery went well and Harshada was saved, but the life of the twins was in danger.

Harshada's twins were rushed to the NICU and were put on the ventilator. Diagnosed with respiratory distress and extremely low birth weight, the babies were kept on the breathing machine for close to 15 days. Once they were out of ventilator, both the babies began to show signs of recovery.

One of them was recently discharged and has started feeding normally. The other twin, however, had caught an infection a day before she was to be discharged and had to be kept in the NICU. While she is better, her condition is still critical and she requires meticulous care. She has been in the hospital for the past two months and needs to stay there for 2-3 more weeks.

Khanderao works for an NGO in Mumbai and earns Rs 8,000 per month. At present, he is the sole earning member of the family.

The young couple has no one to help them financially. Whatever little savings they had have been exhausted in paying off the hospital bills till now.
