A tailor-turned-saree-fabric-painter, Dhanalakshmi is a proud mother of two school going girls and a small son. Now that her business has taken off, her monthly income has increased by Rs. 3000. She has been able to pay Rs. 10,000 as school fees for both her daughters and about Rs. 4000 on school uniforms and school bags. In addition, she has spent Rs. 600 on medical check-ups for her mother-in-law. She told me that she dreams of being able to build a new house and is full of plans for her children – she wants her daughters to pursue higher studies and her son to become an engineer. To achieve these dreams, she will put the skills she learnt to good use and expand her business further.
