My name is Surina. Devangshu my 3-year-old son is in the hospital. He asks me every day about going back home. He cries to go back and play with his sister. Everything was fine until Devangshu came to us in April complaining of itching and red spots on his left leg. We thought it to be an infection. Santhoshe, my husband, and I just applied lotion over the spots. We told him it would vanish soon to comfort. During the next 7 days, he developed blood clots and had severe pain in his left leg.
We couldn't believe our little son was dying
We took him to a dermatologist. He might have understood the seriousness and referred to a Pediatrician. After running several tests on Devangshu, the doctor said he was suffering from Leukemia. When we were told that Devangshu was suffering from Leukemia, we really did not understand. We had never heard this word before. But when the doctor explained it was blood cancer- we were shattered.
We came all the way from Nepal to India to get the best treatment possible
We started with the treatment immediately. He was admitted to the nearest hospital and started undergoing a blood transfusion. I remember, my husband struggling hard to find blood for my son's transfusion.
We wanted to provide our Debu, the best possible medication. And so with all that we had, we came to India in mid-July. I always wanted to visit India but never thought that would land here for such a terrible reason. The only thought that kept me going was the treatment for my child.
Currently, Devangshu is undergoing his 2nd round of chemotherapy in Medanta hospital. We keep him isolated most of the time so he does not catch an infection. He is very vulnerable. So, the loneliness gets to him.
We have already spent a few lakhs both in Kathmandu and India. Now this treatment will cost Rs.10 lakhs. We have nothing left right now for even the next round of chemotherapy. We have exhausted all our savings and need your help to save my child.
