4-year-old Darshini Is Fighting Multiorgan Failure After A Seizure And Needs Your Help To Recover

“I can’t even remember what she said to me the last time. She was so quiet that day. She became so weak that she is not even able to fight it.”
Darshini is 4 years old. For past 7 months, she has been on steroids for a rare and painful disease. Darshini got so weak that she had to be admitted to the ICU in a critical condition. It has been weeks on the ventilator, this little girl is fighting sepsis and needs support to beat the disease and come home to her parents.

She vomited so many times that she had a seizure

For several weeks, Darshini had swollen ankles. She complained of stomach ache. Blood and urine tests showed that she has a rare disorder called Nephrotic Syndrome. Darshini’s body excretes too much protein, damaging the blood vessels that filter waste and water in her kidney. She needed to be on a strict diet, and for 7 months, she has been on steroids.
“It started recently. She kept crying of stomach ache and began vomiting. It got so serious. She could not even hold water. We admitted her to the hospital. She was in the ICU for 5 days, shifted to the ward for a week and then discharged with medicines. Again, 4 days later the same thing happened, and we rushed to the hospital at midnight. The doctor gave medicines in the morning. For a while, her stomach ache stopped. The vomiting did not. Within a few hours, she had a seizure.

Darshini went into a coma and had multiorgan failure

The seizure put Darshini in a coma. She needed to be on a ventilator. For 3 days, this baby girl was not responding. She got better on the 4th day and opened her eyes. However, the seizure caused organ failure. To add to her troubles, Darshini is also suffering from an infection. her extremely weak body is unable to fight the infection. She has an obstruction in the intestines that is causing pain.

“She needed a surgery, but her platelet level went down and she began bleeding so heavily that the surgery had to be rescheduled. The doctors said she would die on the table if they took her in now. Her lungs and kidneys are not functioning. Dialysis and ventilator are keeping her alive.

This little girl is fighting to stay alive

Darshini is not conscious. She is heavily sedated. It’s been 2 weeks since her mother, Rakhee, heard her voice. She could not speak even when she was conscious as the ventilator tubes are in her throat.

“My in-laws came home that day. They entered. She saw them and said 'Dadu Dadi' and seized. That’s all. I don’t remember her talking before or after that. Now, there is not one part of her body that they have not put a needle into or inserted a tube. She is just 4 years old. I can’t see her in such a condition. She kept showing her stomach even when she awoke in the hospital. Something is hurting her. Sores have affected her everywhere now. She is not able to fight back and I want to save her.
