Background
The city of Navsari in Gujrat is home to a sizeable tribal community. Neha Patel ji who works closely in the region along with her mother Shilaben Patel, spent time with the Schedule Tribe families last month. She heard unbelievable stories of abject poverty in the poor Tribal communities.
The couple start off a new chapter of their lives in such a manner with no formal marriage solemnized. There are hundreds of such couples who live together as husband and wife after this ritual. Apart from the social angle, such marriage does not confer any legal sanctity and especially exposes the brides to risks in case the union does not work.
The mother and daughter duo Shilaben and Neha Patel decided to bring dignity and a little celebration to these marriages. This has led them to organize a community marriage on 19th April 2019, Shradha Mandir at village Kavrej, Vasda Tehsil, Navsari, Gujrat for of 35 couples from Tribal community. They are supported in their endeavour by Jan Swabhiman Welfare Society.
Funding
Marriage expense for each couple is estimated to cost around INR 30 thousand. This includes the cost of clothes for bride & groom, gifts and wedding arrangements. The total amount for the marriage for the 35 couples is expected to be around INR 10.5 lakh
Goal of this Campaign
The goal of this campaign is to raise INR 10.5 lakh towards marriage expense so that the couples can be married with no financial burden to them. We request you to bless these young couples with your generous donations so that the marriage can be solemnized
