“I couldn’t even tell my wife till one week after her delivery, how sick our baby is. She kept asking me why our baby hasn’t been brought to us yet and I had to keep telling her that she was in the observation. When I finally told her, she cried uncontrollably for a whole day and did not even say a word to any of us.”

After the delivery their baby never came to them

When a first-time mother goes into labor, she expects to cradle her baby in her arms soon after. But that didn’t happen for Priyanka. Her baby was taken into observation like all babies are, but instead of bringing her back to her waiting parents, the nursing home staff brought bad news. There was something seriously wrong with their baby daughter, but they didn’t know what.

Priyanka’s husband didn’t take too long to decide that he needed to get his baby serious medical attention. He immediately took her to Cloudnine hospital and just told Priyanka that their baby needs to be tested for a few infections. When the doctors evaluated their baby, it turned out that her life was in danger due to a lung infection and a hole in her gastrointestinal tract.

Chakshu didn’t know how to tell his wife that their daughter was fighting for her life

When Chakshu learned how serious his daughter’s condition was, he didn’t know how to tell his wife about it. She was still recovering from delivery and the shock would upset her health even more. But after a week had passed since delivery, he couldn’t keep it to himself anymore and told Priyanka the fragile situation their daughter was in.

Priyanka often cries that she can't hold her baby

Priyanka took 2-3 days to even come to terms with her baby’s condition. After that, she started going to the hospital to look at her child from a distance. Very often she required support to stand up because she was always on the edge of passing out from the stress. Throughout her pregnancy, she was thinking about what clothes and toys she will buy for her baby, but now they were buying medicines and blood units for her.

She has already gone through multiple blood transfusions

Their little baby bleeds from her lungs, which results in severe blood count deficiency. Her father Chakshu recounts how he has had to buy blood units and platelets at least 4-5 times already, in the 15 days since his little girl was born. Their baby has gone through multiple transfusions already but still, there has been very little improvement in her condition. She needs the ventilator to assist her in breathing from her lungs.  

There is hope for their baby but Chakshu cannot afford the treatment anymore

Due to the hole in her gastrointestinal tract, she could not breastfeed. She was receiving all her nutrition through tubes. But now thanks to her treatment, she has started breastfeeding now. This improvement has given Priyanka a ray of hope that they will be able to take their little girl home with them.



In order to completely recover, she needs a prolonged stay in the hospital. Chakshu can’t afford this expensive treatment anymore because of his poor financial condition. He is a ladies’ tailor with a minimal income and a family of five members to support single-handedly. He has already borrowed money from everyone he knew and now has no one he can turn to, for help.
