    This fundraiser will benefit

    Sheema

    from Hyderabad, Telangana

Sheema’s favourite time of the day was when her father, Karimullah took her to the park in the evening. She loved running around and playing hide and seek with her father. These days, when Karimullah looks at his little daughter he can hardly recognise her. She does smile and talk to him but only for a few minutes. Cancer has made her very weak. Playing in the park is too risky for this 2-year-old baby girl - she spends all her time in the confines of the four walls of the hospital.

It was just fever and swollen eyes, who would have thought that Sheema had cancer

Sheema was born to Karimullah and Razia after an unfortunate miscarriage - she is the apple of their eyes. But three months ago when she had a high fever and her eyes were swollen, the parents got cautious. Suspecting that there was something wrong with her eyes, Karimullah took her to an eye specialist but the eye drops he gave, didn’t help.

I took her to a different hospital where her blood test revealed that she is suffering from blood cancer. I sold all my wife’s jewelry to start the treatment - there was no other choice. But now she needs a bone marrow transplant, the cost is too high for me to afford,” - Karimullah.

Little Sheema hides behind her mother in fear of injections

Despite the high temperature, nausea and diarrhea, Sheema talks animatedly with her parents. It’s her childish babble and sweet smile that keeps Razia and Karimullah going on in this struggle.

“I tell her that eating a banana will make her stronger. She doesn’t like the fruit but gobbles  it up fast so that she can go home. She misses home a lot. But of all things, she is most afraid of the injection - she hides behind me so that the doctor can’t see her. Every day, I pray to Allah that she recovers soon,” - Razia, mother.

This desperate father needs help to save his only daughter from death

Karimullah works as a customer care executive in a BPO company. He earns Rs 12,000 a month, which is only just about enough to take care of his family. When the tragedy struck, selling his wife's valuables was not enough, he even borrowed around 3.5 lakhs from his colleagues and relatives to continue the treatment.

“I have done everything I could to save my only daughter. The expenses of the treatment are overwhelming, the transplant costs 20 lakhs. I can't go to work knowing that she needs me now more than ever, but even if I go my income would never be enough to afford the transplant. She is very precious to me. Please help me save my baby,” -  Karimullah.
