    keertibala shukla

    from Mumbai City, Maharashtra

The other day, my 2-year-old daughter, Kimaya stood in front of my wife, Keerti, and asked me if she can go to her mother. I didn’t know what to do - if I should console my wife who was devastated that her daughter didn't recognise her or tell Kimaya that deadly cancer has made her mother look like this. I stood there helpless, holding both of them in my arms praying for a miracle to save my wife,” - Ameya, husband.

Ameya has not left his wife, Keertibala’s, side since this February. He is also the only one taking care of their daughter. With no one to help him, Ameya hasn’t been able to go to work for the last couple of months.  Keerti is now running out of time - she needs a bone marrow transplant at the earliest to fight this dreadful and go back to her baby girl.

Cancer crept into Keertibala’s life stealthily and without a warning

A happy marriage, a happy family, a successful career - Keerti felt blessed as she used to look around herself only a few months ago. Little did she know that her entire world would come crashing down in just a matter of few days. Keerti (32) has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia - a type of blood cancer that affects the white blood cells. She needs chemotherapy and an urgent bone marrow transplant, that is the only way she can fight back cancer.

She told me that she felt pain in her left ear and had some trouble seeing from her left eye. We decided to get her checked immediately. Her tests were not normal but we didn’t lose hope. But when the second round of test results was a rude shock for us - they said she was fighting blood cancer.”

The thing that Keerti hates most about cancer is that our little daughter can’t even come near her anymore

The disease has ravaged Keerti completely. She has lost 17 kgs and can hardly sit up on the bed. Her head has been shaved and sometimes she hardly recognises herself when she looks into the mirror.

“She puts on a brave face, holds my hand and smiles at me. She even tries to make conversation but she is so tired that she falls asleep while talking to me. But the one thing that makes her sad is that Kimaya can’t come near her. She is very prone to infections, and we can’t afford that risk. But I know that it breaks her heart.”

Keerti is all we have got - if I can’t save her, my daughter will grow up without her mother

Keerti’s cancer is spreading rapidly and now her only chance at getting better is a bone marrow transplant. The cost of the transplant would be around 25 lakhs - without help, it is impossible for Ameya to afford it.
“Kimaya keeps asking about Keerti, she wants to know when she will be back. I tell her it will not be long since she sees her mother but I am afraid that she might never come back if I can't afford the transplant. It is our only hope but the cost is too much for me to bear. She needs it urgently and I am desperate to save my wife. Please help me.”

2-year-old Kimaya will be robbed off her mother's care if her father is unable to afford the bone marrow transplant that can save her. A generous contribution from your side can save her.
