There is urgent need to Supply Food and medical aid to at least 1500 Tribal & Rural Families of Raigad (Maharashtra). Most of these families are Below Poverty Line belonging to PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group) Tribe and they are affected by Shutdown due to Coronavirus Pandemic.
It is important to note that out of these tribal families who are not having Ration Card, Aadhar Card (or other Government Documents), etc hence they cannot avail of the Ration being supplied by the Government at the Ration/PDS outlets. They urgently require help from civil society for their survival.

The Tribes of Raigad villages (Maharashtra) are mostly Daily-Wage Manual Laborers, from more than a month their daily income is gone, due to Coronavirus pandemic and they are left in extreme poverty and deprivation.

Vulnerability of one group of these Tribal families is already further worsened by the fact that their village - was uprooted and destroyed in the 2019 floods. (CEI had provided Flood-Relief and Rehabilitation service to those Tribals last year -
https://milaap.org/fundraisers/support-tribals-displaced-by-flood-in-welatwadi-village-in-raigad-maharashtra ).

There are Extremely Poverty-Stricken tribal children from village of Khalapur town (Raigad District) for e.g. these are young children whose father Ram Waghmare recently passed away in an accident. These orphaned Tribal Children barely in their teens have to look after their aged grandfather and ailing mother.

These orphaned children belong to Katkari Tribe which is classified by Ministry of Tribal Affairs as PVTG i.e. Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (Only 3 tribes comes under PVTG category out of 47 tribal groups in Maharashtra)There are thousands of such families in extremely vulnerable situation, who are in urgent need of Food & Medical Aid especially in these unprecedented times where we are fighting against Coronavirus pandemic.

The Funds will be utilized in providing Food Package, basic Medical Kit for prevention of contracting Coronavirus (additionally, the logistics & administrative cost will be included for ensuring these provisions reach to the intended beneficiaries spread across more than 30 villages):

  • Every Single Food Package will have Ration for 1 month for 1 family consisting of Rice, Flour, Pulses, Salt, Sugar etc.
  • Medical Kit for prevention of contracting Coronavirus per family: Hand Sanitizer, Masks, Soap, Hand Wash and Lysol.
We will also collaborate with Local Administration to ensure that proper laws & regulations are followed in transportation of these provisions to the Rural and Tribal areas of Raigad (Maharashtra).

This shall prove to be akin to hope & light at the end of the tunnel for 100s of tribal families who’ve lost their livelihood due to Covid-Induced Nationwide Lockdown!

Energised & Hopeful Adivasis unloaded the saplings with a lot of enthusiasm, geared to get into action and earn their livelihood.

Apart from ongoing Food-Aid & Medi-Care Initiatives, CEI is now focusing on re-building lives of tribal & rural families (Economic Rehabilitation & Sustainable Livelihoods).

2) In below video, Devaki ji & Chandar ji recount how food aid (sufficient for 1 month) given by CEI has been an absolute lifesaver! They don’t have ration cards. There is no labour work left now & they are childless. CEI is also helping them with Medical Aid!

CEI is implementing Food & Medical Aid program for most vulnerable sections of BPL tribals: In past weeks Tribals Devaki ji & Chandar ji received food provisions from CEI team. Devaki ji is used to work as labour as her husband Chandar ji is completely disabled.
Come, join us in this Divine, Humanitarian Endeavour of Empowering the Disenfranchised

In an Initiative that will Empower more than 50 families forever, CEI will plant 250 Papaya and 250 Drumsticks Saplings on 19th September 2020. This is the first Horticulture Initiative in 2020, the first after lockdown restrictions have been relaxed.

Apart from ongoing Food-Aid & Medi-Care Initiatives, CEI shall now focus on re-building lives of tribal & rural families (Economic Rehabilitation & Sustainable Livelihoods).

5) *#CEIEmpowers – Kaluram Pawar ji’s Journey from a Backward Tribal to an Entrepreneur!*

Tribal Kaluram ji is a success story of Market-Linked Entrepreneurship Development Program of CEI.

CEI trained Kaluram ji in organic farming, animal husbandry and other agriculture allied activities to enable food security & sustainable livelihood.
Kaluram used to work as manual laborer earning Rs. 50.

CEI gave him training and helped him begin his own organic farming & animal husbandry business, enabling more than 9 folds increase in his income.

CEI is achieving exponential transformation in the conditions of the socio-economically disadvantaged sections helping them in areas of:
- Health
- Lack of access to various avenues of Employment &Empowerment especially to women.
- Education
- Housing
- Last-Mile Delivery

6) CEI is looking for livelihood opportunities for rural & tribal societies so that they don't have to send their children to labour.

▪ BPL Tribal Adhiram ji is taking care of his ailing mother by himself. He lost his temporary manual labor work in lockdown
