    This fundraiser will benefit

    Ishanth

    from Hyderabad, Telangana

I remember the night he threw me out of the house. He had come home drunk, once again. But this time, he seemed different, angrier. I was pregnant, my 3-year-old son held on to me as my husband screamed, throwing things around the house. Before I knew it, I was on the road with nowhere to go. He asked me to never come back. But I couldn’t give up, I had to stay strong for my children. When Ishanth was born, I wanted to do the best for him. But now he has a liver disease. He’s dying and my husband won’t even pick up my call.” – Ramadevi

The disease can kill him, but I was forced to take him back home from the hospital

Ishanth has had fever since birth. Sometimes, his stomach would swell up too. Ramadevi was told that it was merely an infection, but last month, his stomach was so swollen that she knew something was wrong. She took him to a hospital in Vijayawada where she was given the most devastating news – her baby’s liver is completely damaged.

“They told me only a liver transplant can save him, and at that moment I even said I would donate my liver. But I soon realized I have nothing to afford his treatment. Imagine being told your baby is running out of time, and not being able to do anything about it. With a heavy heart, I took him back home.” - Ramadevi.

I begged him for help to save our baby, but he refused to believe me

“My husband has not seen our baby even once. I called my husband to tell him how sick Ishanth is…I begged him for help, but he refused to believe me. He just hung up the phone and told me to never call him again. He didn’t even ask how our baby is. Anything can happen to Ishanth now, he needs a liver transplant to survive but I’m helpless.” - Ramadevi

She has no one to help her but her aged parents - it's not enough

As upset and angry as Ramadevi was after her husband left her, she knew she couldn’t give up. Her baby needed her. So when Ishanth was born, her aged parents supported her. Ramadevi was even determined to start going for work before she found out about Ishanth’s condition. Ever since then, she hasn’t been able to leave his side. Her aged parents are doing all they can to help her – they have spent 1 lakh on his treatment so far, and they are only daily wagers.

“His condition is only getting worse with time, his stomach is getting bigger. Every day he cries in pain. My parents don’t earn much and now we struggle to afford even our next meal. I need 18 lakhs to save my son, but I have no one else to turn to.” - Ramadevi.

Without help, this 6-month-old baby will have a painful death
