    H D Gowda

    from Bangalore, Karnataka

I think being poor means one should not have any affection or attachments. We shouldn’t even have family. If you do, then one has to go through such pain and distress like us. My son has cancer and we do not have a rupee for his treatment. I just want my son to be alive. Is that too much to ask for?” – Hanumandraya,  father of H Devegowda

Hanumandraya sounded angry as he spoke.  But then he bursts out crying, he is helpless, he doesn't know how to save his son.

Devegowda seems too quiet and lost. His mother says he was once a very talkative boy. On making repeated attempts to talk to him,  he opens up a little. He says he wants to go back to his home and be with his older brother who is his favourite companion. He misses having his favourite food - payasam and pulav.

“I don’t like it here. I'm made to sleep most of the time. I want to play Kabadi with my friends. But, I’m not sure if I can play well like before. I feel very weak. My legs are also paining.” – Devegowda

Devegowda was a healthy boy who rarely fell ill. So, when he got fever repeatedly for over a week, Devegowda's parents got worried and took him to a clinic in their village. They were suggested to take him to a bigger hospital when he did not recover after taking the regular medication. The parents were shocked beyond words when they got to know that their son had cancer.

Devegowda is diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a type of blood cancer. Cancer has broken this young boy's spirit completely. He has also lost his appetite and is losing weight drastically.

"We had never heard of cancer in our family before. How could somebody who was so normal and healthy get such a deadly disease. We have no money to even eat and pay for the travel charges. There is no way we can afford our son's treatment,” – Anitha, mother.

Hanumandraya is a farmer from a village in Tumkur, Karnataka. He had borrow from his neighbour to take his son to Bangalore from the village.

“My son's life took an ugly turn in the last 30 days. In such a short span, he has changed from a happy and active 10-year-old  to a depressed and distant cancer patient. Struggles are nothing new to us but this helplessness is killing me. I want to save him desperately but there is nothing I can do," – Hanumandraya.

These poor parents need your financial help to save their son from the deathly hands of Cancer. The treatment cost is estimated to be about 12 lakhs and you are their only hope.
