    Baby of saranya

    from Erode, Tamil Nadu

“I was in shock and disbelief when my water broke. I couldn’t understand how it was happening as it was just the 6th month of my pregnancy. I was so scared and worried about my baby that I wasn’t able to breathe. When my baby was born he looked so weak and fragile that I was scared to even hold him, I thought I would hurt him.” - Saranya, mother

I kept telling my wife that it will be okay, but I was scared

“When we first reached the local hospital, they said that they don’t have an incubator and couldn't deliver the baby there. They asked us to go to a bigger hospital in the city. It was 40km away! We rushed there in an ambulance and that entire way my wife was crying and panicking, I kept saying that it will be okay but I was scared too on the inside.” - Naveen, father

Saranya's baby was born prematurely at 28 weeks on the 18th of April. His lungs were weak and he was gasping for breath. His other organs were also not fully developed. He was immediately shifted to the NICU with ventilator support.

After being so close to winning the battle, these parents may lose

“I work in a small company as an admin and with the income I get, I am able to provide my family with basic needs. When I got to know I was going to be a father, I tried to save as much as I could for my child, to buy him new clothes and toys...I never thought I would see my child like this. My saving and my income are nowhere close to what is needed. I am failing to save my son.”

It’s been a month and a half, Naveen somehow managed the expenses so far by borrowing money from friends and family, taking loans on interest and he spent every bit of his savings but it is not enough. The baby is recovering well now, he is still underweight but 2 weeks more in the ICU and these parents can take him back home healthy. The only thing stopping them is that they can’t afford the treatment any further.

Naveen and Saranya get to see their baby only once in a day that too for only a few minutes. They travel every day from their village to the hospital for those few moments with their son.

“We don’t feel like going back. We know we can’t see him for more than 5 minutes but we spend our mornings in the hospital sitting near the ICU, we feel like we are closer to him than we are at home. We are eagerly waiting for that day when we would return home with our son in our arms.”

Only you can help these parents take their baby home. Your contributions can save their son's life. Click here to contribute.
