Aquasafi, founded in 2010 in Hubli, Karnataka, works with NGOs to provide clean drinking water to low-income communities. It also creates jobs by recruiting local micro-entrepreneurs eager to improve rural water quality. Local village councils provide work space, water, and electricity to these entrepreneurs. Aquasafi systems, by reverse osmosis, produce potable water from groundwater. In September 2012, Milaap launched a pilot program with Aquasafi, so that rural Hubli families could get 20 liters of water at just Rs.4. Milaap provides loans so that micro-entrepreneurs can purchase Aquasafi equipment. The loan recipients set up stable enterprises, make a rural impact, and also repay the Milaap loan in installments.
