Farmer's 4-Month-Old Baby Is Dying And Needs A Liver Transplant In Two Weeks

“He has had a fever from when he was born. He cries all night. My child has only been in pain so far. After he drinks milk, even if his stomach swells up a little bit – we get very worried.” – Kiran, Lokesh's father

Naga Lokesh is a 4-month-old baby born to his parents 7 years after their marriage. He lives with his parents in a small village in Andhra Pradesh. He has liver failure and his parents live in constant dread of not being able to get to a hospital in time if his condition should suddenly go bad. Lokesh needs a liver transplant at the earliest to survive.

For months, doctors told his parents that there was nothing wrong with him

Lokesh's birth was a very happy event for the family. Kiran and Chaitanya had waited years to have a child. When they saw that their baby was sick with yellow eyes, they took him to the hospital in Tenali – the closest town to their village. They were told that their baby only had slight jaundice.

“Doctor told us to keep him out in the sun. Two weeks later, he started vomiting and we went to a doctor again. But she also gave us medicines and asked us to go back. His health was getting worse so we came to Vijaywada – and here they told us that he had a month to get a liver transplant to live.” – Kiran

Baby Lokesh's stomach swells up abnormally every time he feeds

Kiran has already borrowed heavily and has no way left to arrange for funds

Kiran is a daily-wage farmer who earns Rs 400 for a days' work. What little he had saved for the baby is already spent and he has even borrowed Rs 2 lakhs from local moneylenders. He has asked everyone he knows for help, but it is very hard for him to arrange Rs 18 lakhs in time to save his first baby.

“I have begged people and cried in front of them while asking for help. My wife is depressed and keeps telling me to do something and save him. He is too young to suffer so much pain – I will do anything to save him. But I don't know what else I can do now.” – Kiran

Baby Lokesh's time is running out fast as his parents try to arrange a liver transplant

Both my wife and I are ready to donate our liver, but even to get the test we need Rs 3 lakhs. We applied for CM funds, and if we get some relief from there, we can at least get tested. Every day, he is smiling a little less. He cries for longer and we spend sleepless nights worrying about what to do.” – Kiran

How you can help

Lokesh was born to his parents after they prayed for him for years. If they can't arrange for a transplant in time, his life will be snatched away. Lokesh spends his days in a lot of pain and discomfort. He has a good chance of recovery but only if he gets a liver transplant in time.

Contribute and save little Lokesh's life.
