Fatal Infection In His Blood And Brain Can Spread And Kill This 1-Month-Old Without Help

On the day of his naming ceremony, I was giving him a bath when I noticed small rashes on his head. He was just 9-days-old then, and every time I tried to check what it was, his whole body would become stiff and he would start crying. In just a day, the scabs began appearing on his legs. We didn’t know what it was, but it quickly spread to the rest of his body. Every time I carried him, he would toss and turn in discomfort. It kills me that even my touch gives him pain instead of comfort. The rare, deadly infection has now spread to his blood and brain. He has been in the hospital for 15 days now. Without treatment, he won’t make it to his first birthday.” – Bhagyamma, the baby’s mother

A happy celebration soon gave way to a tragic diagnosis

Bhagyamma and Nagaraj’s baby boy’s naming ceremony was supposed to be a celebration. They named him Mohit, and as the day ended, they thought they would always remember it as one of their happiest memories. But amidst all the celebrations, Bhagyamma was a little worried about the scabs on her son’s head. Little did she know that two days and many tests later, he would be diagnosed with a deadly infection that can quickly spread to the rest of his body and kill him without treatment.

Despite the excruciating pain, their baby fought hard to make it out of the ICU

Bhagyamma’s baby has Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, a bacterium that causes infections in different parts of the body by multiplying uncontrollably. It soon becomes resistant to different antibiotics. What started as scabs on the baby’s scalp and legs, soon turned into puss filled wounds. From his skin, the infection had quickly spread to his blood and brain. The little one was soon taken in for a surgical procedure where the puss was drained out. Ever since then, he has been undergoing treatment in the hospital with antibiotics and close to four injections every day.

“The last two weeks have been the scariest for us. After the surgery, our baby was in the ICU. We couldn’t stay with him for long, because he was extremely vulnerable to even small infections. But I was grateful for even the few minutes I got with him. I used to whisper ‘Paapu, amma is here with you’ and prayed that at least my voice would comfort him. Our son is a fighter. He made it out of the ICU and the infection is now decreasing, but we can’t stop his treatment at any cost, all his progress will be in vain and we will lose him to this life-threatening infection.

The devastated parents need your help to save their baby from the clutches of death

Their little baby turns 1-month-old in three days, and all Bhagyamma and Nagaraj pray for is that he is saved. While the infection is reducing, their baby is still not completely out of danger. He still needs treatment for at least the next 4 weeks, but his parents are struggling to continue the treatment that will save his life.

Bhagyamma, Nagaraj and their older son, Bharat
My husband is a daily wager and earns around 300 per day. We’ve spent over 1 lakh so far by borrowing from our relatives, but with each day, it’s getting harder to find a way to continue his treatment. I remember, when we took him home for the first time, our son, Bharat, was so excited to have a baby brother. Our home was filled with laughter and happiness. Now we all have nothing to say to each other. When Bharat calls me to ask how his brother is, I force a smile and tell him he’s coming home soon. But every day, I hold my baby in my arms, worrying that it might be the last time.
