She Thought She Was Getting Back The Kids She Lost During Her Miscarriages

When Khushnuma’s contractions started just 7 months into her pregnancy, she knew something was wrong. After being rushed to the hospital, the doctors acted quickly, and delivered Khushnuma’s twins in preterm conditions. Because of their premature birth, both babies, a boy and a girl, were severely underdeveloped, weighing in at just 1.5kg and 1.3kgs respectively, less than half the average of the weight of healthy newborns.

With their blood vessel systems and their respiratory systems, among others, not being fully formed, both babies were at great risk of death. They were immediately put in NICU, on life support. Habib, their father, knew that being put in the NICU and staying there for a long time would be very expensive, but he saw no other choice. He would not let his wife lose these children. Because…

“I’ve had two miscarriages. They are the worst… the worst and most painful thing that has ever happened to me. I never gave birth to them, never brought them into this world, but they were still my children, they were already my everything, and I lost them. This year, when I found out I was having kids again, and then I found out I was having twins… It felt like my children had come back to me.” – Khushnuma, mother, smiling through her tears

Habib is a door to door clothes salesman. He works hard but barely makes enough money to support his family. And with it being monsoon, most days he can’t go out to work at all. To keep their children in the NICU this long, this couple has already had to borrow money from all their friends and relatives, and even sell all the jewelry that Khushnuma owned.

Fortunately, the twin boy was declared healthy enough to go home. But the girl still needs another 2 weeks of stay in the NICU, which Habib and Khushnuma can no longer afford.

“If we lose this child, I will be devastated... but I don’t know what it will do to poor Khushnuma. I can't even imagine how much it'll hurt her. And it’ll be my fault, because I couldn’t afford the cost. I will never be able to forgive myself. I just don’t understand why we’re being punished like this, I don’t know what we’ve done to deserve it.” – Habib

This family is in dire need of funds right now to keep their precious daughter alive. They’ve exhausted all the money and valuables they had, and have nothing left.

You are now their only hope. Donate whatever you can and save this infant from death.
