Rani now enjoys a greater sense of privacy

Rani lives alone in her humble abode in Musiri Town Panchayat some 45 kms from Tiruchirappalli. I went to her colony hoping to meet Kamalam, who leads one of the many Joint Liability Groups of five women in this area, formed by GUARDIAN, Milaap's partner, for the purpose of disbursing micro credit to build toilets in their homes.Since Kamalam was unavailable, I met Rani at her residence at around 3 in the afternoon when her only daughter was visiting with her seven year old child. She owns 3 cows and also sells Dosa and Idli batter. In total she manages to earn around Rs 7,000 in a month.
Before constructing her own sanitation facility she used to use the public toilets, just about 500 meters away from her house. When she found out about the sanitation loan provided by Guardian, she applied for it. She has to pay a monthly installment of Rs.455 . She now has private access to her own toilet, whichi helps her enjoy a greater sense of privacy and cleanliness.
