“There is a deadly disease living inside our son’s little body. It made him weaker every day, and we didn’t even know,” says Shyam Verma, Hardik's father.

It began in May when Hardik started to fall sick. His fever wasn’t going down, so his parents took him to a doctor who advised them to go to Mumbai for further tests. What they thought was only a passing fever, soon turned into a nightmare. 5-year-old Hardik was diagnosed with blood cancer in August. He has taken 3 cycles of chemotherapy so far, and has 3 more left. Hardik’s condition will rapidly decline if his treatment does not continue.

Hardik and his parents haven’t left the hospital in 3 months
Ever since the terrible news of Hardik’s illness, his parents have been heartbroken. Nevertheless, Shyam and his wife are determined to find a way to save their son. After several tests and scans in Mumbai, they took him to Delhi for his treatment, and have been there ever since.“We feel like we’ve been in the hospital for an eternity. I can’t even begin to imagine how my little son feels. Our daughter is only 3 years old, but we had to leave her with a family member in Agra. Life as we knew has come to a standstill. We have left everything behind at home. We'll do anything to see our son healthy and smiling again."

There has been no end to young Hardik's pain in these past few months. He was rushed to the ICU after his first chemotherapy cycle and was on ventilator support for 15 days until he could finally breathe on his own again.
Hardik is eagerly waiting to get better and go home, but his parents are helpless
Hardik can’t even eat without vomiting anymore. This has made him weak and fragile. He spends sleepless nights crying in pain. However, Hardik is fighting tirelessly against blood cancer, but it will all be for nothing if he can't continue treatment.

“It’s been 2 months since he has eaten properly. He keeps asking us why he’s in so much pain all the time and when he can go home. How do I tell him that he is here till he is better? How will he get better if I can't pay for it. I feel so powerless, but I will not give up now.”
Hardik needs 3 cycles of chemotherapy and a possible surgery to get back on the road to recovery. Shyam is a housekeeping supervisor at a hotel and earns Rs 10,000 per month. He is the sole breadwinner of the family. They have already spent 7 lakhs on his treatment so far, and need 5 lakhs to continue his treatment.

“If we stop the treatment now, our son won’t make it. I’m desperately looking for any help that I can get to save him. I haven’t been able to go for work since his diagnosis, and now I’ve used all my savings.”
