5-Year-Old Can’t Even Drink A Sip Of Water Because Of The Pain Of Cancer

It was Diwali, little Tharun was goofing around throwing crackers and being his mischievous self. Everything was fine and his parents didn’t know that within 24 hours their lives will turn upside down. It started as a mild fever. Next day, red spots spread quickly on his body making him weak. After many tests and treatments for a week, doctors said he has cancer.

"They say it is rare. Only a few children get it. Why has it to be my baby boy?  Tharun just started going to school. But now, our life has come to a halt. The cancer is slowly consuming my child. He has already lost 6 kgs. The chemo is making him weak but that is the only thing keeping him alive," – Hemalatha, mother

5-year-old Tharun has Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a type of blood cancer that progresses rapidly making the body week and prone to various infections. Only urgent chemotherapy can help him recover.

He pulls the tube in his neck out of pain only to bleed more

"He has already received one cycle of chemotherapy. My child is showing progress but the pain is unbearable. They have put a line in his neck and he can’t sleep or move his head because of it. The stinging pain is hurting him and we have to hold his hands to stop him from pulling the tube apart. Even swallowing water is difficult… I can’t stand to see him suffer like this," – Rose Kumar, father.

He needs three more cycles of intensive chemo and supportive care through blood products and antibiotics. There are high chances that he can beat this cancer that is trying to kill him. But the treatment costs around 15 lakhs and his father is unable to afford it.

Kumar lost his job for staying in the hospital with Tharun for a month

"I have already borrowed and paid 2 lakhs for the treatment. I need 15 more lakhs and I don’t know how I am going to pay for it. I worked in a soda factory for a monthly salary of Rs 10,000. I lost that job as I couldn’t go to work for a month due to my son’s condition. We manage the expenses only through borrowed money. I have no options left and no one else to beg. I want my son alive and I have promised him to take him home sooner. I have promised him to reduce his pain. But how will I do it now?" - Kumar

Little Tharun needs to stay in the hospital for five more months to beat cancer. He has already come through the first cycle successfully and only has three more to come out cancer-free. His family is struggling to keep him alive and only your help can make it possible.

Your generous contributions can save little Tharun’s precious life.
