This 5-Year-Old’s Liver Is Not Functioning Properly And Makes Him Bleed Through His Stomach

Urgent: The doctors told them that their son's liver would soon stop functioning completely and he would eventually need a liver transplant to survive.

"His birth had brought immense happiness to the entire family. Little did we know that his life would soon be engulfed with peril. It's difficult to see him in so much distress at such a young age. How can the all merciful God not see his troubles?" - P Estari, mother, breaking down in tears

The reduced functioning of the liver resulted in the accumulation of fluid in his abdomen which was the reason for his abnormal-looking pot belly

P Anand and his family lived a humble life with whatever little he earned through his small roadside shop selling bike helmets and vehicle seat covers. His son loved visiting his uncle's place on weekends. During one such visit three years ago, while he was playing, something abnormal happened. His mother noticed that a streak of blood squirted out from his umbilicus, as he complained of pain in his belly. This got them all worried and they immediately took him to the nearby hospital.

"The doctors conducted various tests and informed us that our son's liver was not functioning properly, which was the reason for the bleeding that occurred. The reduced functioning of the liver resulted in the accumulation of fluid in his abdomen which was the reason for his abnormal-looking pot belly. We couldn't believe that something so serious was wrong with our son." - P Anand, father, recalls sadly

They have to take him to the hospital once in 2-3 months when the abdominal swelling increases a lot and he starts having trouble in breathing

The doctors told them that their son's liver would soon stop functioning completely and he would eventually need a liver transplant to surviveHis parents brought him home, and since then he has been on medicines to manage his ailment. But, his symptoms and suffering have been increasing with each passing day.

"We have to take him to the hospital once in 2-3 months when the abdominal swelling increases a lot and he starts having trouble in breathing. They drain some fluid from his abdomen, which only temporarily relieves his symptoms. It's extremely painful to watch him cry when the doctor performs this procedure. How can such a young kid endure so much pain?" - P Estari,

His mother decided to donate a piece of her liver to him

The parents could no longer bear to see their child suffer and hence his mother decided to donate a piece of her liver to him. They approached the hospital with this decision and enquired about the procedure. However, the estimate that the hospital gave them cast a shadow of gloom on the hope that had shone for a while on their horizon.

â€śThey have told us that his transplant will cost 20 lakh rupees. I have no clue as to how will I ever be able to arrange such a huge amount. We have already spent 6 lakh rupees on his treatment till now. We had to sell our assets and take loans from our relatives and friends for this. There is nothing left now to mortgage or sell that can somehow get us the required amount." - P Anand, with a worried look

They have high hopes and dreams for their son

Like any other parents, P Anand and his wife discuss a lot about what they want their son to do when he grows up. They often talk about how he will grow up, get a good job, and get out of these financial troubles to lead a meaningful life. But, his illness has pushed all these dreams into a bucket of uncertainty.

He is 5 years old but still, takes care of his younger brother. Despite his suffering and pain, he doesn't bother us with any tantrums. Though he hasn't started his schooling yet, his witty responses and quick learning attitude show his potential bright future. But, will he ever be able to live that life, is the question that keeps me awake at night. I feel so helpless as a father, who is incapable of giving his son a chance to live." - P Anand, breaking down while describing his pain

Help this young boy overcome this trouble

"I have heard of people coming ahead and helping others in their time of need. I wish it comes true for our son as well. He means everything to us. We cannot watch him slowly succumb to this illness. We will be left with an unending feeling of guilt if we don't get this liver transplant done for our son. I wish no one has to ever experience something like this in their lives." - P Estari
