Parents' Worst Fears Come True As 8-Month-Old's Stomach Swells Uncontrollably

My wife has been crying every day for weeks. Her eyes are constantly red and raw.
She knows our 8-month-old is running out of time, and we can’t afford to save her.
I’ve been trying my best to keep her spirits up, but... it’s hard, because I’m barely holding it together myself.

Baby Lithiksha was born to Sankar and Sirisha as an answer to 7 years of dashed hopes and prayers. Her arrival had been a moment of great joy and celebration, and both parents finally felt like their lives were complete. However, this happiness only lasted 6 months. One morning, Sirisha noticed her daughter’s stomach seemed to be swollen. Over the next week, it just kept getting bigger and bigger.

"I took her to the closest hospital, and they ran some tests. When they said she needed to be hospitalized, I... It was so scary, I suddenly started having this fear that I could lose her any second. After a week of hospitalization, they told us she had some extremely rare liver condition and asked us to take her to a bigger hospital. I felt like my worst fears were coming true." – Sankar

Lithiksha was diagnosed with Budd-Chiari Syndrome, a condition so rare that estimates suggest only one in a million people get it. This is a condition where the veins that drain the liver get clogged, leading to extreme fluid buildup in the abdomen, a dangerously enlarged liver, and severe pain. Without an urgent liver transplant, the afflicted can die within 3 months of diagnosis. Lithiksha was diagnosed 2 months ago.

We don’t know what we’ll do if we lose her

"For the past seven years, I planned and worked as hard as I could. I struggled and opened a small photography studio, saved every bit of money I could, just so I could support my child one day the way she deserved. But over the past 2 months, I’ve spent all the money I had and borrowed money too, just to keep Lithu alive long enough to get a transplant. The actual transplant costs 18 lakhs, though! I can't afford that!" – Sankar

Your kind contributions are this family’s last hope. Despite Sankar's best efforts, the machines that baby Lithiksha is hooked up to will not be able to keep her alive for much longer. She needs an urgent liver transplant, so please donate as much as you can.
