Mother of four, Chellamal was an agricultural labourer. When she got her loan from Milaap, she was able to learn the ropes of masala making, and increase her monthly income by Rs. 300. With a steady source of income, she was able to pay Rs. 7000 for school books and notes and about Rs. 700 on medical expenses.
She could also make some improvements around the house – installing new lighting, replacing a spoiled switchboard and get new cleaning materials. I asked her what her future plans were, and she replied that she plans to set up a second business – a clothing shop, and she will get trained in handicraft and wire-bag making. She wants her children to study further, and will work hard to provide for them.
